we had visited peru for a special wedding our friends were going to. we had been dating for about two years after finding out we were going to the same college. we got up super early to get ready to do things before the wedding and we decided to kill time. first we got breakfast at a small stand outside of the hotel and after that we decided to go down and walk around the area. we came across a long bridge. there was a sign on it that read "Puente de los Suspires (Bridge of Sighs), is a bridge in which you hold your breath when crossing and your wish for true love will come true."
we exchanged looks and he smiled, "wanna do it?"
"as long as you don't fantasize about hayley williams."
he threw his head back in a laugh and grabbed my hand. It felt like the first time and it just brought back memories when we were in high school, just two students crushing on each other without even knowing it.
"hold your breath and stay connected, okay?"
I nodded and took a deep breath. when we did, we took the step onto the bridge together, hand in hand. I looked up at him, he was looking straight, keeping track where we were going. His blonde locks danced in the wind and his blue eyes shined brighter when the rays of the sun hit them. He squeezed my hand and smiled at me, mouth close so none of the air got into his lungs. I did the same and we started to jog across, not even aware of the fact that this was a long bridge.
we heard each other laugh in our stomachs and wrap our arms around each other, full on running now. he couldn't quite catch up with me so i pulled him closer and then we finally made it across. people around us stared in awe and we caught our breaths before capturing our lips into a kiss.
