How could he have been so stupid? Kissing her like that? Now their friendship would be ruined forever. She would never speak to him again.
A pang went through his heart. Never speaking to Lucy again?
He couldn't imagine a life without her. She was his life. He needed her to live.
So how could he have been so stupid as to ruin it all?
While the kiss was probably the worst thing he could have done, it was by far the best moment in his life.
And she kissed him back.
He tried to convince himself that it was just her natural reflex to kiss back, but he couldn't help think that maybe it was more than that.
Did she want to kiss him too?
It didn't matter. They could never be together. He would just drain her light with his darkness, like he always did.
Monster, monster, monster.
The heavy thoughts crushed him with their weight.
He wouldn't do that to her.
He couldn't do that to her.
No more slip ups. No more kisses. No more feelings.
He had to shut them off -- for good this time.
He had to leave again. Maybe for good this time. Maybe he could come back in a few years. Maybe his emotions would dull by then.
He knew that wouldn't happen, but he had to try.
It was decided then. He would leave, and this time, he would come back.
It had to be tomorrow morning, before anyone could stop him. This time...not even Happy would be joining him. He would be happy to stay here, with Lucy and Lisanna. At least he hoped he would be.
Happy was just another soul to crush in his path of destruction.
The thoughts made his chest ache.
Why wait until tomorrow even? Why not just leave now, in the dead of night? No one would see him this way, no one would know.
No one would care, after a while. He hoped they would just forget. It would be so much easier that way.
Natsu didn't even bother writing a note before heading out into the night. Into the darkness that would swallow him, forever.
