One Month Later:
Natsu was on a path of self destruction. He picked fights with anyone or anything that crossed his path. It was getting harder as the days went on.
He couldn't eat, he couldn't sleep. His body craved for her to be near, for her lips to press against his.
His magic energy was low due to his lack of sleep and appetite. He was constantly expelling energy, but regaining none.
Having caused so much destruction in the past month, many villages were furious with not only him, but the Fairy Tail guild altogether.
He had finally become the monster he always knew he was.
When his power ran dry, he fell unconscious, and was transported back to the guild.
When he woke up, he was alone in the infirmary, no one to be seen or heard. He knew where he was, how could he not? He had spent a good part of his life here.
And then he smelled it. Her scent.
Voices could be heard approaching, one of which was Lucy's.
He couldn't see her. If he did then everything he'd just done was all for nothing.
He had to get out of there.
Natsu sprang up out of the uncomfortable infirmary bed and attempted to escape before Lucy and what smelled like Erza entered.
But it was too late. As he looked around the room, he realized there was no where to run, no where to hide.
As the two girls entered the room, their conversation came to a halt. Their eyes stayed trained on the boy in front of them.
Lucy was speechless. She didn't know how to react. One part of her, the part that hadn't seen him in a month, wanted to tackle him in a hug.
But the bigger part of her was furious. Furious for leaving again, when he just returned. Furious for leaving not only her, but Happy behind as well. Furious for not bothering to even leave a note.
He looked terribly thin and worn out. His eyes had huge bags beneath them and he looked paler than he ever had before. He had bruises scattered all over his body, and she knew there were more concealed by his clothes.
Lucy was seconds away from a complete breakdown. She couldn't stay here, not when he was looking at her like this.
So she did the only logical thing. She glared at him, before turning and running from the room.
Having her run from him, the monster...it cracked his heart into millions of pieces.
Natsu called her name from behind repeatedly, soon growing close enough to catch her before she entered the guild hall.
She should've known he would catch her.
He grabbed her arm and spun her around, forcing her to face him.
"Lucy please, wait a minute. I'm sorry-"
"No!" She wailed, ripping her arm from his grasp.
His heart shattered once again.
She started to run again, but before he could chase after her, Erza held him back.
"Let her cool down for a bit," was all she said.
Natsu nodded and hung his head.
