Everything is pitch black.

A terrifying sensation covers your body.

A scream of terror, No, triumph.

It fills your ears, A deafening sound.

Your human curiosity aspires to know...

Where are you?

Why are you here?

Who is in your presence?

Who are you?

No answer comes.

The pit of your stomach begins to turn.

Foot steps, coming closer and closer.

Faster and Faster.

You attempt to stand, but find it yet impossible.

Faster and faster.

Closer and closer the steps proceed.

The pain of knives fill your body.

Yet you do not bleed.

Yet you do not die.

You feel your heart.

It's beating becomes grotesque.

Beat, Beat, then the roar of a maned lion, Beat, Beat.

Beat, Beat, the sound of an axe hitting a fowl, Beat, Beat.

Beat, Beat, the cries of men at battle, Beat, Beat.

Gradually the horrible beat begins to move.

Like a devil serpent it slithers up your body.

Up your lungs, impeding air from entering.

Coughing and sputtering you lay.

Unable to breath.

Just as it completely demoralizes you, it escapes.

Coming off your lips as a mist.

A mist formed as a frail, yet horrid old man.

An old man on his death bed.

You lay motionless as you watch him die.

Wincing at his cries and moans, you begin to weep.

You cry so hard you start to feel faint.

The harder you cry the more the old man coughs.

Coughing and Crying, Crying and Coughing.

Then all is silent.

You look up, startled to see the man in the mist is still.

Then The mist takes shape of a bird in flight.

The bird of mist slowly descends in your hand.

It settles and transforms into a heart, a human heart.

Your heart.

Then everything disappears in flames.

I was reading Edger Allen Poe in English class and The Pit of the Pendulum inspired me to write this. I like the end of it more then the beginning. Please tell me what you think of it, and thank you for reading :)
