The night passes by and the morning colors attack the sky. Birds chirp their morning songs and flutter around in the trees. It was like the entire mood of the forest changed from being lonesome to cheerful and full of life. I can hear the sounds of the forest waking up but don’t get up myself. The light shines through my tent, at any moment I know Gwenyth will get up. I count the seconds that go by, nothing happens. Odd, she usually gets up right as the light falls onto her face. I sit up and turn to my side—no one is there— I begin to worry and stumble out of my tent. The bright light of the sun flashes in my eyes, I blink and they change from their violet color to an alerting bright blue. The others are sitting in a circle in the middle of camp, their heads turned in my direction. The awkward silence was irritating as I scan their faces. Gwenyth is staring at me excitedly—as usual— Hunter has finally come out of his tent from the previous night’s experience but doesn’t pay much attention to me. Lyra and Lydia look at me with the same expression—confusion— and then I notice two other elves. Selena and Aurora, they have returned from Freymill at last. I walk over to them and they stand up and bow their heads gently.
“What news do you have of our client?” I demand I want to get straight to the point and end the silence among us all. Aurora opens her mouth to speak but Selena interrupts her
“He didn’t want to speak to us; he said he wants to speak to our leader and only our leader.” I freeze; clients have never asked to speak only to me ever! Something is wrong about this set up.
“Did he give you any information about the job?” Aurora nods, removing a piece of her dark brown wavy hair out of her pale grey eyes.
“He said something about the pay… he said we would be get—“
Selena cut her off again. “He said we would be getting over a million gold! We’d be rich!” gasps fill the air, gold is very expensive—especially in the economy we have now. How could this person have so much money, not even Faelwen has two thousand gold, I turn to Lydia. Her face isn’t expressing the joyful smiles of everyone else.
“How much would we each get Lydia?” she sighs and looks up to the sky for a bit.
“Only one hundred forty two thousand for each of us.” this concerns me, with the way things are priced that money won’t last long. I run my fingers threw my hair and sigh.
“Then I will negotiate so that we all get one million gold. How badly did he seem to want us to take this job?” Aurora looks at me with a shrug.
“He seemed quite composed. Or angry, I couldn’t really tell” Selena nods in agreement with her.
“He wants to talk to you tomorrow; we aren’t that far away from Freymill. It didn’t take us long to ride there” I nod. If I was to personally contact this client myself instead of my messengers, he must not trust the information with them. If so, he’s going to have to give us more money for the inconvenience. I set those thoughts aside; it’s time for a hunt. Usually only Lydia and Lyra go hunting in the morning, and Hunter, Selena, and Aurora go in the evening. I’ve decide to change it up today to give Selena and Aurora a brake.
“Gwenyth and I will go hunt this morning, Lydia and Lyra you will go with Hunter in the evening” Gwenyth jumps around in excitement and the others just nod at my decision. Gwenyth runs to tend to the horses while I get my bow and quiver, and Gwenyth’s training daggers. I hear the snort of the horses and turn my head to Gwenyth who had her horse and mine.
