(Shasta's p.o.v)

I heard my alarm go off and I groaned at it. I wasn't looking forward to work this morning. Even though it was Friday I still wasn't excited. Even though it was payday.

I grumbled. My dog got up and jumped excitedly. He was still a puppy, he was a Pointer and was already almost as tall as me. His name was Harley.
He followed me as I got my clothes together for the day.
Boy four thirty came early every morning.
I got in the shower after I turned on my music. Eric Church's song Record Year started playing. I loved Eric Church's music.
I showered and kinda tried to wake up, damn I was so tired.

I got out of the shower and got dressed. I dried my brown hair and pulled it up in a loose bun.
I grabbed my purse and keys off the key hook. And slipped on my shoes quick. I petted Harley and told him to behave while I was gone. He'd be home alone but I had always told him to behave whenever I left the house.
I headed out towards my car. I unlocked the doors and got in. I sighed. "Another day Shasta, you got this". I say to myself as I pulled out of the driveway.

I was finally at the diner. I honestly dreaded it.
I walked through the door. "Morning Shasta". Emily said. "Ugh". I grumbled in return. She laughed. "Oh come on its Friday!!" Emily says excitedly.
"Are you going to Bg's party tomorrow night?" she asked braiding her long hair. "I doubt it, you know I hate being around drunks". I say. "Oh come on it cant be that bad, its BG were talking about.. He's cleaned up his act since he started dating Amber". Emily says. "Pft." I scoffed. "What". My redheaded friend asked with a small laugh. "You know how I feel about that whore of Babylon". I say. Emily laughed. "Come on she's been good to Bg". She says. "Good at what spending his money". I say. "She didn't want a damn thing to do with him before he was famous, now she's all over it.""she wanted a finished product, when he was a work in progress". I say. "Jealous much". Emily says. "Oh yeah totally jealous". I say sarcastically.

As the day drug on and on I thought about just wanting to get out of this damn town. I wanted to travel. But in the midst of graduation, work, and my car payments I didn't have any time at all.
I felt as though I was wasting my damn life away trying to survive. I hated that the government took so much for taxes and shit like that. I felt like by the time I paid my bills I was broke.
I sighed as I rung up the very last customer. Emily was leaving.
"Are you sure its okay?" She asked. "I told you its no big deal I'll close up tonight". I said to her. "Thanks". She said as she walked out the door. The bell on the door jingled as she left towards her car.
I sighed.
I was wiping down the counters and turning lights off when I heard the jingle of the bell again. A young man walked in. He was dark haired and had a slight beard. His dark eyes caught my hazel ones. "I'm not to late to get something to eat am I darlin'?" the man asked. "No sir, what would you like". I say politely. He smiled a genuine and kind smile. His eyes seemed tired. The poor thing he looked like he had just came back from a long trip. Like Brantley used to look after he go off one of his tours that Amber didn't let him go on anymore.
The man's voice snapped me out of it.

"Surprise me, I'm sure anything you'll make is gonna be as good you look." He says winking at me. "Aw lord". I say under my breath as I walk back towards the kitchen to get him something.
