Keaira could feel it. He was looking at her. They all were. The Guardians. She pretended not to notice but it wasn't easy. The gazes on her back burned and she resisted the urge to squirm.

Her friend Yolandi was rambling on about something, completely unaware of her discomfort. She tried hard to focus on Yoli's story, but it was incredibly difficult. She wanted so, so badly to look at him.

Ryan Herrera.

The girls clap affectionately called him Adonis, but Keaira believed that was an understatement.

"Kee, are you listening?"

Zoning back in, Keaira smoothed over her Havana twists and smiled. "Yeah, I just got a bit distracted." She was thankful that the blush couldn't be seen on her mahogany skin. "Just repeat that last part."

Keaira noticed that Yoli was once again lost in what she was saying, so she took a chance and looked back.

There he was, still staring at her. She noticed him smirk and raise a brow.

So she wasn't crazy...

He was aware of the connection.

Since that day Keaira's had a sixth sense for Ryan. That day, she was sure something happened to her.

Keaira remembered clearly. She was almost late to first period. She was rushing down the hallway when it happened.

Running down the hall toward he class, she rounded a corner. On the other side, Keaira made eye contact with Ryan. She stopped in her tracks.

His gaze, intense and burning, wasn't meant for her but she was stuck. She saw his eyes everytime she closed her own. Keaira's heart raced and her knees felt weak.

Ryan's eyes widened. He looked as if he'd made the biggest mistake of his life. That, or he realized something he didn't want to. Without any words, his eyes searched her face.

Shaking his head, horror etched into his face, he turned and walked the other direction.

Keaira felt weak.

Ever since then, he'd been watching her. She didn't mind. In fact, she felt as if she'd give anything to look into his eyes again. It was like an addiction.

"Keaira!"

Keaira was snapped back into the present, her thoughts pierced by Yolandi's voice.

"Lunch is over, sweets. You get enough sleep? You okay?"

Slowly, Keaira nodded.

"Yeah", she stood. "I'm fine."
