August 11, 2050 Wyoming
It was a fairly warm fall day in Wyoming. Mariah sat and watched as her peers fought in an arena. She knew she should be practicing, but she felt like she needed a break.
"Ugh, I'm so tired of living this every day."
"I don't think it's that bad." Mariahs friend, Hannah, took a seat next to her.
"That bad? We have to fight everyday, as if we are getting ready for some kind of war."
"We are though. There's wars going on nearby everyday. Why do you think we can't leave the city?"
"I guess you're right. But, I just wish I could be free."
"Wishes don't always come true."
Mariah sighs. "Well, I might as well get some practice today."
Mariah and Hannah walk over to the arena. Mariah immediately loses sight of Hannah.
"Fight me, wimp!" A guy says to Mariah devilishly.
"Take me on!" Mariah squints at him.
After a minute of each other dodging punches, Mariah gets destracted by the beauty of the forest.
BAM! Mariah gets punched right across her cheek and falls to the floor.
"Wimp! Thought you could beat me?" He laughs and punches her again, then walks away.
I see someone running towards me—then I can't remember anything after that.

I look at the forest. It looks majestic.
I walk closer. "Dangerous? This looks beautiful."
'Come.' It seems to echo to me. 'Closer.'
I continue to walk closer. I notice how everything looks so green and open.
"I wish this was my home."
'Stay.' It echo's.
I wish I could, but what about the rumors of the dangerous creatures in here?
'Come on, Mariah. Take a look.'
I walk into it.
"Mariah? Mariah."
Mariah slowly opens her eyes. "W-where am I? Hannah?"
"At my house. You passed out when you were punched."
"How? I never pass out though?"
"I have no idea, but it looks like you were hit pretty hard. You've been out for a day."
"A day!? Were there any new lessons!? What happened to the guy that hit me!?"
"Woah, woah, woah! Slow down bit. You didn't miss anything. And the guy, he...he didn't even care."
"Ugh, I wanna beat him up so bad!"
"Mariah, its fine! No need to do that, because I already beat him up for you." Hannah smirks.
I rub my cheek. "Ow."
"Oh, I'll get the pain medicine!" Hannah rushes over to a cabinet.
"Pain medicine? What do I look like, a wimp?"
"Kinda..."
"Hey!"
"I was just kidding." Hannah laughs and puts the pain medicine back.
I look outside. The forest in the distance reminds me of 'home.' Where I was born. Yet, I don't know where I was born.
"Mariah?" Hannah stares out the window with me.
"Huh?"
"What are you looking at?"
"The forest. I wonder what it's like in there."
"Horrible! There's a reason it's called the Dark Forest."
"But...it looks so beautiful."
"Looks can be deceiving."
"No people. There's no people there. How can it be deceiving?"
"You wouldn't understand."
"Hmm...anyway, I'll be heading home now."
"Okay, bye Mariah."
