I was walking through the forest. I didn't know where I was going, or where I'd been. I just ended up there, my thoughts clouded and foggy. My father was being his usual self. Angry, always angry. Doesn't matter at what, just always angry. Yelling and throwing things. I needed space to breath. So I snuck out the window in my locked room and made it outside.
As I walked, I pondered on random subjects. Like why the sky was blue. Why did the forest smell nice at the end of the day? Why didn't I fit in? I was usually last picked, last partnered up with, least liked. Who know's why, maybe because i'm the carriage maker's kid who gets dirty looks every time he picks up his father from starting random fights around the village. Someone has to do it, just so happens to be me.
As I walked, I came across a stream. Just out of nowhere, a stream. Well, more like a pond. It wasn't uncommon in the forest, for ponds to naturally appear. We got a lot of rain, today the sun had decided to peek from the clouds, probably just for the day.
I ended up sitting by the pond, picking at the beautiful purple flowers that stood tall. They seemed out of place, but they smelled very nice. Everywhere around the pond were yellow, green, and other plants. So the purple ones looked very different. I picked another one, inspecting it.
"Stop! Stop picking the flowers!" Someone called out. I froze. Who was that? No one appeared. I reached for the flowers again, only to hear the voice again. "Stop please! You're hurting them!" It cried out. I took my hand off the flower, putting both hands into the air.
"I'm sorry?" I said, still looking around for the face to match the voice. It sounded somewhat feminine. It was a little hard to tell. "Who's there?" I asked. This seemed silly, talking to a voice. I've probably gone mad. Yes, mad. Let's stick with that.
"If I tell you, will you leave the flowers alone?" It asked. I was confused. Why did the person care so much about the flowers?
"Uh, sure.. I'll leave them alone," I said. A splash was heard behind me. I turned, seeing the most beautiful creature in the world. It was a girl, or well, a mermaid as some would call it. She had a tail. A long, blue and silver tail. You honestly couldn't miss it.
My eyes widened as I crab walked back into the forest, desperately trying to stand up and run. My back hit a tree, forcing me to sit against it. I looked at the... thing, my mind racing. What was this? How is this possible?
"Wait! Please wait!" She called out. "Come back! I won't hurt you, I promise!" She said. I thought it over. A mermaid. A real mermaid. Was this even remotely possible?
I slowly walked back towards the pond, keeping my guard up. She says she won't hurt me, but I don't believe her. I don't even know what's happening. A
"I'm going crazy," I said to myself as I got closer. "Mermaid aren't real, this is impossible," I said.
"Hello," she said, swimming into the brighter light. Her soft voice echoed throughout the pond, making me shiver slightly. It was quiet, gentle.
Her baby blue eyes looked into my hazel ones. They were the lightest blue I'd ever seen, practically matching her tail. . Almost to pretty. Her light brown hair clung to her face, wet from the water. Her sky blue tail swung back and forth in the water. Her perfect, peachy skin looked too real to be true.
"H-Hello," I said with a shaky voice.
"So, this is what a human looks like. Quite peculiar," she said, surveying me. I felt very uncomfortable. "What are these? Are these called legs? I've read about these!" She said, pointing excitedly towards my legs.
"You've never seen a human?" I asked, seeing that she was fascinated by my feet.
"You've probably never seen a mermaid," she said. She had a good point. "What's your name?" She asked. I stayed away, but sat on the ground.
