sneaking out

I turned and looked at the clock: 1:46 am.

I slipped out of my bed, and put my new tights and hoodie on, over my pyjamas. I sneaked outside and started heading towards the park. It was now officially Monday morning.

Great… school today.

 My mood instantly darkened.

On the swings sat a mysterious figure. I squinted my eyes to try and get a better look at them, only to realise it was Curly.

(The nickname had stuck.)

He looked up and saw me staring at him. A smile plastered itself onto his face, cute dimples and all. “Took your time. I knew you’d come here eventually. But unlike Big Ben, apparently Australian girls don’t do schedules.”

I snorted in a non-committed fashion. I wasn’t really in the mood to make conversation. I turned around, and walked away from him. I heard him get up from his swing and fall into step beside me.

“Did I do something?” he questioned, flashing me an innocent grin.

“No, I think your forgetting: I don’t like you.” I sneered.

He looked taken back, and a frown formed on his face. I felt terrible.

“Sorry Curls, I’m just not looking forward to school. Being the new girl is never fun.” I smiled apologetically. “And I can guarantee, it’s not going to end well.” I muttered under my breath.

“Au contraire, babe. The end of school is always the best part.” he grinned cheekily. “And anyway, there’s no need to worry. I’ll protect you.” As I laughed grudgingly, he slipped an arm around my waist, pulling me closer to him, and steered me towards the swings. We sat down, and chatted for a while about random stuff. He told me a bit about the school.

“Well, I think I’m gonna have to go home, I need my beauty sleep.” I winked, standing.

“Same here. Nice talking to you again. I’ll swing by before school, okay?” he said as we hugged goodbye.
