Just her and the sea

Too stubborn to flee

And call her love

Doesn't seem bothered by the fact she might be disposed of

In the deep blue Kanagawa inspired seas

Dark and light waves seize

Manhattan, New York

It was 1963

She wouldn't call him

Not even on a whim

She hadn't a care

A Girl's Romance (#83)

A theme of serious and passion, he took a chance

"A masterpiece of melodrama"

"A melodramatic masterpiece"

"Julia! Can you go to table seven, Phyllis is out!" Mrs. Graham calls out. A spoon splashes in the sink and a paper pad and pencil are swiped off the metal counter. A small body comes out through the doors, her hair is rushed into a ponytail and her feet move faster than her legs. She breathes hard and her pencil drops. She picks it up quick so she can run to the back for table seven.

"Hi, welcome to 'The Blue Doll,' I'll be your server Julia," the girl smiles as the customer smirks at her. "Can I get you something to drink or do you know what you want?" He chuckles. "I'll have a Heineken and a water." Julia scribbles down the order and places the pencil back behind her right ear, but takes it back to her hands to ask, "Still looking at the menu?"

"I haven't even glanced at it. I'm too busy with this painting," the man points out the painting above him. "Beautiful isn't it?" Julia sets down the pad and the pencil rolls off the table and under it. He notices and reaches down to grab it for her. She bends down to meet him halfway taking the pencil and murmurs her nervous thanks. When the man sits back up, he looks back at the painting. "I'm getting it when I leave- I mean when I go to France next month for my two semesters at a cooking school in May," Julia starts.

"The next Julia Child?" He asked still staring at the painting. "Something like that...um, I'm going to get your drinks." She left him still staring at "Drowning Girl." It was Julia's favorite work. They had gotten it sent from Roy Lichtenstein himself, he had eaten at The Blue Doll many times before. He left a note saying he loved it so much, he wanted to give a copy of his newest painting, "Drowning Girl." Julia was used to it. It was there when she got there. She loved waiting for that special table number seven. She loved staring at it from her work station. It was truly beautiful, but Julia didn't know why she loved it so much.
