We sat down on the couch watching the news as footage of people running in terror was shown live and the news anchor was terrified on the screen. She opened her mouth to talk but we couldn't hear anything our eyes were focused on the misle flying towards the camera in background when it hit the screen went black and switched back to the new's anchors at the office.
"It is official the government has released that this is the start of what people are calling 'World War III'", The female paused as tears filled in her eyes still shocked at the footage that was shown she began to speak again " The nation is in danger as we are the fifth to join the battle and terrorist attacks are happening all over the states, cities are being evacuated and are filling with troops we warn every one to stay indors until US troops evacuate you." The screen switched to a red screen as evacution orders filled the screen. Our living room was quite as we listened to the war outside. The lady that was killed was only a hour away. I looked at my brother Kenneth who was twenty one and knew that he would most likely be drafted in a few days. My mother and father had already began packing things for when soldiers come knocking on our door. The house was silent as all this happened dinner was left untouched the only noise came from the T.V. as it repeated orders of what to do.
"Kenneth do you think we're going to die?" I asked as i stared blankly at the wall before turning to face him.
"I won't let it happen, Kassandra, I would have to die first before anyone touches you." He got up from the couch and looked back at me. "Come on we should help pack."
I zipped my suit case and left it on my bed it would probably be the last time I could sleep in such a comfortable place. My room seemed empty as there were no more pictures up I put them all in my suit case I couldn't live without them they are my mermories but I have a feeling the next couple years will be memories I don't want to remember. We all know wars can last a decade or more I just hope this wont end with the end. I stood in my room listening to the rain hit the window, even mother nature knew this was a depressing day. I felt someone's presence and looked towards my door; Kenneth was standing in the frame. He made his way towards me and gave me a hug.
"We will make it through don't worry everything will be alright," He said trying to reassure me but it didn't instead tears ran down my face of all the possiblities that could happen to us none of them so present. "Don't cry Kassandra, everthing will be alright, there always is a little sunshine in all situations."
