Chapter 5

Sylis POV

My parents had a moment of shock before they started smiling. My mom went up and hugged my sister, "Congratulation honey I'm so proud of you."

Kira got this look of disgust on her face as she tried to push out of mom's embrace. I busted out laughing so hard that I scared little Mara. Everyone just looked at me like I was crazy while I was practically dying on the floor with Mara poking me with her toys. Kira pushed mom off her crossing her arms as she glared at me. "He isn't my mate."

My parents gave her a confused look, "Then whose mate is he," They both asked.
At this point, I had stopped laughing even if it was so funny they thought my sister had her mate yet. I stood up putting Mara on my hip after she started giving me the grabby hands, the common baby language for pick me up. 

Looking at my family I said, "He is actually my mate," mom and dad had their mouths open wide with complete shock on their faces, "Surprise, I guess." After a few seconds of awkward silence, I had to say something, "Are you guys going to say something or are you just going to keep staring at me with your mouths opened because you're starting to creep me out." It took a few seconds but eventually my parents closed their mouths and started to actually talk and not just stare at me.

"So you found your mate," I wasn't sure if she was asking me a question or stating something.

"Yeah I did. Are you happy for me," I asked. That question must have unfazed my mom because right when I said that she smile really brightly and ran over to me giving me a big hug while crying. 

"Oh honey, I am so happy for you. I was just really surprised that you found your mate on the first day of school," mom let go of me and started passing around mumbling to herself. "We have to meet this mate of your got to have a dinner party announce it to the pack. So much to do, so little time."

I think my mom has gone crazy, by the look on everyone else's face, they think the exact same thing. Dad went over grabbing mom and gave me a pat on the back. "I'm proud of you son. Now you can become Alpha of the pack. Bring this mate of yours around at some point we'd all like to meet him."

Dad approving of my mate was like a weight falling off my shoulder. I have always admired my dad. He was pretty much my idol as a kid. Everything I do that my dad compliments me or when he shows me how proud he is of me makes me relived. I'm glad I can do something to make my father... No, my Alpha happy. "Thanks, dad. I'll try to bring him around at some point. His name is Conner and he is human," I said shyly.

My dad just smiled and waved me off, "Doesn't matter if he is a freaking fish he's your mate and that is all that matters. Now, treat your mate right. Now, if you'll excuse me I am going to try and get your mom to snap out of whatever faze she's in," he started dragging my mumbling mom off to god knows where to calm her down and maybe bring her back to reality.

Once both my parents were out of site I looked at Kira with a big smirk on my face, "Didn't go the way you planned did it, little sis?" She was pissed, her eyes kept flashing from her wolf back to normal and I could tell her canines were just itching to come out. She has such a temper and almost no control over her emotions, so her wolf can easily take control. She needs to get better control because it is starting to get annoying.

I can't believe I was nervous to tell my family about my mate. I should have realized my parents wouldn't care they love me and they love my mate as long as I'm happy they don't care. I felt a little smug knowing my sister didn't get the reaction she wanted to get from my parents.

I grabbed Mara who was giggling and slapping her hands together like the adorable baby she was and put her straight into Kira's arms then I started to walk off. "Watch Mara for a while will you I'm going to go and head to the pack house and hang out."

If I looked back at Kira right now I would probably see her face turning the deepest red to ever exist, but I didn't look back. I just started leaving. "Sylis get your ass back here right now or so help me god..." I ran out the back door into the woods before Kira could finish what she started to say. I shifted into my large black alpha wolf and started heading towards the pack houses that were deep in the forest. It was a precaution to make sure hunters wouldn't be able to find us and it has worked for years and it's going to continue working once I become Alpha. Conner and I will lead the pack. We'll have a strong and happy pack, I just know we will.
