Dylan's P.O.V.

"What do you mean you're giving me six months?!"

I couldn't believe this. I honestly just believe this. My temper was hanging on by a very thin thread.

My father looked me dead in the eyes and replied very calmly. "You know very well what I mean, son. I'm giving you six months to find your mate, who will be the next Luna of Blue Sky."

"And if I can't, or better yet.... if I don't want to? What will you do?" I asked.

"William's son, Damon gets handed the title of Alpha."

William's son. Out of all people, that good for nothing Beta William's son?

"But this is outrageous!" I yelled while slamming my hands down on the desk in front of me. "I'm the one who's been trained to be Alpha. I'm the one who knows how to and is strong enough to run this pack. You can't just hand him the title like that!"

My father, who looked almost bored, slowly got up from his leather seat. "I can, and I will. Not unless you bring your mate home, that is. Even Damon has been training for Beta, and it isn't that big of a difference from being Alpha, son."

"There is a difference. A bloody huge difference. And I don't want a damn mate, I don't need one. I can run this pack without her. Haven't I made that clear?"

My father walked towards the glass window behind the desk in his office. It overlooked the garden which he had made back with his so called "mate". My "mother". Looking outside, his eyes swirled with emotions of pain and agony. I just couldn't see anyone suffer as much as he did.... And I don't want to end up like him.

She didn't deserve anything she got, my father's love, the pack's respect...anything and everything she had. She deserved nothing.

"You might not realise it yet Dylan, but you need your mate. She will change your world; give you the power and passion you need to do the impossible. She will stop you before you do anything wrong, motivate you to do the right thing. Always."

I could sense the anguish behind his words. The sad and lonely person behind his strong and sophisticated demeanour.

"That's bullshit and you know it. Look where believing that got you."

His tensed. With those words said, I knew that I had hit a nerve. Growling, he lunged for me, his hands on my throat and my body pressed against the wall.

"At least it got me somewhere," he all but snarled at me.

My eyes glowed. I was on the verge of breaking. I needed to get out, get away.

"I'd rather be nowhere than be where you are today. She made a joke out of you and you let her," I spat back.

And with those words, I pushed him off of me and stormed out of his office. Slamming the door hard enough for it to crack, I made my way downstairs and out into the forest.

Silently fuming, I tore my clothes off of me and shifted. Energy rippled through me as my wolf form took over, my body still shaking with anger.

I need a release. I need to run.

The moon was at its brightest in the dead night by the time I returned to the house. I opened the glass door at the back of the house and made my way inside, not bothering to be quiet.

My wolf disagreed with me, and insisted that my father making me look for my mate is a good thing. His anger towards me only fuelled my anger even more.
