Summer
I stared at the house I front of me wide eyed, I had to remind myself that this was for the best, I had to leave the environment that my mom provided for me, it was the best.
I looked over at my mom, "Honey you'll be fine, it won't be that bad, I'll come visit you on the weekends, and we can go shopping just like the old times."
Was what I was hoping she would say, but instead, she inhaled her cigarette, and then she exhaled.
She smiled slightly, and for a split second I could see how beautiful she was, but as soon as it came, it quickly left.
I didn't expect much from her, I at least thought she would say that she was sorry, and that she would beg for me to stay, saying that she'll drop her useless excuse of a boyfriend, saying she'll change.
But no, instead I watched as she drowned her sorrows and regrets into her cigarette.
Inhaling the past.
Exhaling the present.
"This is it." I looked at her, she didn't even break a sweat, she still had that stone cold wall that she built up over the past 4 years, but I could see past that fake façade that she put up. She was afraid, afraid of being alone, she didn't know who would take care of her while I was staying with my father.
I was just worried about what she was going to do while I was away.
After he heard about that little stunt that my moms boyfriend pulled with me still in my room and him bringing his friends over, my dad no to me living with her, and brought me to live with him Instead, to finish my last year of high school, I would still be going to the same school, I'll just be living in the wealthy part of town.
"Go on now, I don't want to keep you waiting from your new wealthy life." She put quotations over the words wealthy and life.
"Stay safe." I said ignoring the gesture that she made.
She nodded getting back into her car and leaving the front gates saying she had to pick up someone, I'm guessing it was her low life of a boyfriend.
I fixed my hair and continued to drag my suitcases to the front gate tears slipped down my face as I wondered why she couldn't be like all the other moms, saying that she'll miss me a dozen times, placing kisses all over my face, tears running down her face.
But I had to remind myself, that she wasn't like other moms. When my dad left he took apart of her that couldn't be replaced.
