Many subjects liked to get to battle tactics class early to ensure that they had a good spot to watch the fighting. Due to knowing who would be fighting, 1303 was one of the first to arrive. To his surprise, many other subjects were there as well. Including the beautiful female subject. After a thorough glance around the room, 1303 was certain that 1288 and his minions hadn't arrived yet. Now was his chance.

1303 meekly inched his way over, stopping just next to the subject. He just stood there, however, attempting to gather his thoughts. He never thought he'd actually approach, and now it seemed that he wasn't sure what to say.

Ahem. He cleared his throat awkwardly before pretending to inspect something on the far wall of the oddly shaped room. Obviously hearing his noise, the subject turned and studied him from the side for a moment before speaking. "Well aren't you going to at least say hello?" She smiled. Her voice was soft and airy, her tone playful but also curious.

1303 turned towards her, managing a smile of his own. "Hello." He instinctively offered his hand, which was taken after a moment of hesitation. He noticed that her hands were smooth and soft to the touch, as if she'd never battled or worked at all.

She didn't answer for a moment, her smile returning before she let out a small laugh. She was amused at something, although he wasn't sure what. After chuckling along, he shook his head and dropped his hand. "What's so funny?"

She seemed to gather her thoughts before responding. "Well, I've noticed you watching me for a while now, and after you come over, you say nothing... except hello. I just find it sort of funny."

"Oh.." He started, his gaze dropping to the floor before he shrugged. So she had noticed his staring at her. He wasn't so sure that was a good thing. "Sorry. I'm just not too good at the whole talking thing yet I guess." His gaze returned to her face before he offered his own curt grin. "Let me start over... Hey. I don't think we've met before. I'm 1303."

She laughed. "1291. Nice to meet you."

"Ah, don't you just love the smell of blood in the morning?" The battle tactics instructor yelled across the room, interrupting their conversation. She glanced coldly around the room as she inhaled deeply, the act sending a chill up 1303's spine. "Let's get started, shall we?"

1303 turned, but before he could say goodbye to 1291, she had disappeared in the moving crowd of subjects, who were moving towards the bleachers. While he looked for her, he took note of 1288 and 1300, who had both entered sometime while he was talking to 1291. 1303 watched the black haired bully make a bee-line for 1291 and take the seat next to her.

Dangit. It looks like I won't be sitting with her today..

After finding his own seat, 1303 held his breath and waited for the announcement of the first pair, his eyes locked upon the dry, cracked lips of the instructor. He knew what was coming; who she'd pick first. It was obvious, and he could see it in the devilish gleam of her eyes. "1288 and 1300."

1303's gaze shot towards the well built beast of a subject who rose and climbed the steps to the arena with a grin spread across his ugly face. Moments later, his attention turned towards 1300, who was slowly following with wide eyes. His shoulders were sagging, his posture irregular and his blue eyes darting through the crowd. He was looking for 1303. He, however, was too far away for 1300 to see over the mass of people.

1303 shoved forwards towards the arena, but it was too late to say anything. 1300 was on the opposite side of 1288, his small hands defensively held up in front of his face. The way he held them up suggested that he had no confidence or hope. Poor guy.
