"You sure you want to adopt her? She's turning 10 tomorrow. Are you ready to handle a 10 year old?"
The couple, along with their daughter, sat across from the foster care manager.
"Yes. We are definitely sure! Besides, we can handle a ten year old. We've done it before!" The father said, ruffling his daughter's black hair.
The manager smiled, "Okay. If you say so." She reached for the the phone and dialed a number. She waited a while until she heard someone pick up, "Hello? Isabelle? Yes, could you get Alessandra to pack her stuff? She has someone waiting for her."
*******
To Alessandra, that moment felt like yesterday. For the first time in a long time, she felt like she belonged and loved. Even though it wasn't her real family, is was still a family. And she loves them.
She learned as she grew up that her mother, Ingrid, was a strict woman but she could let loose if she wanted to. She has big bright blue eyes and always keeps her long brown hair in a ponytail or bun, hardly ever letting it loose. She loves playing the piano and has a job teaching kids how to play it. She also loves reading Mystery books, Baklava (a Swedish pastry), cats and nature.
She also learned many things about her father, Taylor. He was an outgoing guy and loves to let loose. He's not as strict as Ingrid but he's strict. (Not as much though.) He has chocolate eyes and very messy black hair that looks like he just got out of bed. He's a teacher at the nearby college. (He teaches the English course.) He loves basketball, donuts, elephants, those "dumb funny" shows, and making everyone laugh.
But she's always been really close to her sister, Catherine. (Cath for short.) She's a few years older than Alessandra and never acts her age but Alessandra doesn't mind. She's pretty tall for her age and has her mother's eyes and dad's hair. She loves playing the piano (like her mom), Eggnog -which Alessandra finds gross, animals and art. Cath has always been such a talented artist and Alessandra always believed that one day, her paintings would be in the Louvre. That kept Cath going.
"Why do you believe in me?" Cath asked one day. It was one of those days where she felt stumped.
"If I believed for four and a half years that someone would give me a home again, you can believe in yourself."
Cath frowned, "But I'm not you."
"No, you're not. You're you. And that's why you should believe in yourself. Because you're you. That's why I believe in you. 'Cause you're unique."
Conversations like that would always inspire Cath even more.
So even though Alessandra vaguely remembers her biological family, she loves this family so much. And she doesn't plan on letting them go. Not ever.
But life never goes as planned.
___________________________________A/N: So, this is just a filter chapter or a chapter to know the family more in depth.
If you can't tell already, this is an origin story. It will have mentions/interactions with characters from the show but nothing big. (Not yet anyways.)
This is mostly an origin story. :)
So, I hoped you liked this chapter! Leave a comment, vote or a follow! Don't be a ghost! :P
