The two girls were at the bay window. Riley sighed happily and contently while Maya faked a smile. She knew what Lucas has been doing to her. He was leading her on as he was with some other girl. She didn't have the heart to tell Riley until now.
"Maya-"
"Yes, Riles? Do you need something? You want cold spaghetti? Oh, okay, I'll get you spaghetti. Just remember that nothing is happening with nobody." Maya rambled quickly. Riley laughed and looked at her with a confused look. "Maya, calm down. What is up with you, woman?" Riley joked.
Maya sighed. Riley was oblivious. Oblivious of the fact that the guy she liked-loved, even- was breaking her heart without Riley knowing. She wanted to say it for weeks but she just couldn't. Riley was more smiley and very happy. She just couldn't do it.
But she had to.
"So, Riles." Maya started. "How are you? Has Lucas been treating you well? Has he hurt you? Has he been busy lately? Tell me stuff and DON'T leave anything behind." Maya was rambling again. Riley was taken aback by all the questions but answered them anyways.
"Well, I'm fine. Lucas has been treating me fine. I don't think he could ever hurt me, Maya. I mean, he's just really amazing and I, dare I say it, love him. He makes me happy, Maya. Although, for the past few weeks he's been avoiding me. I don't know if it's just me. I just don't want him to let go of me." Riley said. From the beginning of her speech, she quickly went from happy to sad. She just realized the fact that she would be very sad if Lucas let go of her. Maya bit her lip. Oh God, she was actually going to tell her.
Maya placed her hand on top of Riley's and rubbed it, affectionately. "Riley, Honey," Maya said. "There's something you need to know." Riley's smile slowly faded away, scared of what Maya wanted to say.
