Chapter 7: The Meal
Mason and everyone else started to eat. It was quiet because everyone was eating but to Mario, it was too quiet.
"Thank you for having me here." Mario said to break the ice.
Y"Your welcome." Said Adam. It was silent again. Mario took a bite out of his dumpling. It was amazing. It was like a pink fluffy unicorn was dancing on a rainbow in his mouth.
"This is amazing." Mason said with food still in his mouth. He now knew why no one was talking.
"Thank you. It's my own special recipe." Alesa said with a smile on her face. Mario ate his so fast that he was done before anyone else.
"You must have been hungry." Alesa said after chewing her last bite. He was.
"Yeah." Mario replied. He didn't want to say he hasn't eaten for hours or they might want to meet his mom.
"So, where do you live?" Adam asked as he finished his second dumpling. Cam wanted to make it sound believable but he didn't know the town very well.
"I live up on the trail by the stream." Mario replied. He didn't like lying to them but he didn't have any other choice.
"How far up the trail?" Mario panicked. He started to sweat. Everyone was waiting for an answer.
"A long walk away. I just moved here so I don't really know exactly." Mario replied. Mason knew this wasn't true but rolled with it.
"Oh well then welcome to Keenaberry." Adam said with a smile on his face. He bought it. Mario smiled, he was relieved he pulled that off.
"Mom can I go show Mario my room?" Mason said with a smile on his face.
"Sure honey, but please put your dishes on the counter by the sink before going up." She said as Adam picked up another dumpling and took a bite.
"Come on." Mason said as he ran up the stairs. Mario followed. Mason closed the door behind them.
"What were you thinking? Do you want to get us in trouble? If my mom found out you lied to her she isn't going to be happy." Mason said. He wasn't yelling but he was saying loud enough to prove his point. He didn't look happy.
"What if they don't find out?" Mario said.
"What is they do?" Mason said it louder this time.
"I'm sorry ok. What do you think she'll do if she I told her I didn't have a place to stay?" Mario was talking loud now.
"I don't know but it would be better then lying to her." Mason looked really mad now.
"I guess you're right but I couldn't tell her. Ok. I just couldn't. You don't know what it feels like." Mario looked at his toes and sat on Mason's bed. It was softer than his.
"Ok fine. Listen I'm not going to tell her but no more lies ok?" Mason said. He wasn't talking loud anymore.
"Ok." Mario replied. There was to be no more lies, "I promise."
Chapter 8: The Night
Mason and Mario were sitting on his bed when Alesa walked in with a tray of freshly baked cookies.
"Would anyone like some cookies?" Alesa asked as she walked over to Mason.
"Sure." Mason said like nothing happened.
"How about you Mario? Would you like a cookie?" Alesa said with a smile on her face. Mario felt at home here. He never wanted to leave.
"Yea sure." Mario said as he grabbed the biggest cookie on the tray, "Thank you." He took a big bite out of the cookie. They were crunchy on the inside but soft on the inside. The weren't burnt either. "Wow, these cookies are amazing." Mario said as he took another bite, "I wish I could have these every day. You a great cook." Mario took another bite. The sun was setting and Mario was getting tired.
"You can sleep in my bed and I'll sleep on the floor." Mason said while taking his last bite of his cookie.
"Ok, thanks." Mario said as he laid down on the soft blanket. Is was made of many different cloths all sewed together.
"No problem." Mason said as he pulled a blanket and pillow out of his closet.
