"Who shares this feeling?" A question with no answer... At least not yet.
♬♩♪♬♩♪♬♩♪♬♩♪"So how will we find out if someone likes music, or at least isn't an emotionless zombie"
Amanda questioned and chuckled.
"Well... I need you to agree you'll stick with my idea to the end..."
"Elisa, what's going on in that crazy head of yours?"
"Just promise!"
"Ok,ok! I promise."
"Great! Now here's my idea... If we want to see if someone loves music, we'll need to first see if people will still react to these things."
"What do you mean by that?"
I smirk.
"E, I don't like that look on your face..."
"We need to see if people will still show happiness on impulse, so..."
"So..? Don't keep me in suspense!"
"We'll need to conduct an experiment."
Amanda's eyes widen.
"Wouldn't that mean we need a person to... Test on?"
"Well yeah! We need to find a test subject."
"Are you crazy!!!"
Amanda yelled in my ear.
"What if they tell someone! What if they don't react, and they'll know we love music! What.. What if-"
"Now look who's filled with what ifs."
"I'm just scared."
"It'll be fine, we just need the perfect test subject, probably someone who doesn't stick out much, so the person doesn't have anyone to really tell.. Like.."
"The outlier!"
"Amands, what's that?"
"Remember in class? The teacher called you an outlier, cause you stick out and are different than the rest!"
"Ohh! So we need someone who seems different."
"That'll be our best bet."
We high five and I noticed it would be dinner soon.
"Amands, its gonna be dinner soon, if we arrive late we'll need a good excuse. Let's head back."
***************
I made it just in time for dinner."Elisa! You came home a little later today! You know dinner is at 6:15 sharp!"
"Sorry...."
"Did you get in trouble at school again?"
"No, I got held up studying with Amanda."
"Fine, you are excused this time."
My whole family ate. Nothing else. No talking. Just clinking of silverware in painful silence.
And we left the table the same. With a "thank you for the food" and then leave for our rooms.
I went to my room and took out a class picture.
Man. We look depressing.
No one was smiling, every picture was like that. No smiles, not expression. Just a blank feature.I started scanning through our classmates, taking notes of potential test subjects.
"Now... Let's see who's up for the challenge of happiness..."
