6 Months Later

His relationship with Jen stayed the same, composed of wide grins and delicate touches, of butterflies in his stomach when he saw her every morning.

His relationship with Helen remained the same, composed of friendly jokes and absent passion, of rocks in his stomach every time he failed to tell her how he felt.

It wasn't that Colin hated Helen, or even disliked her. She was sweet and kind, and an amazing mother and friend. But that was all he could think of her of these days, ever since a blonde goddess waltzed into his life. Helen would always be in his heart and he never wanted to hurt her, but Colin couldn't help but feel that he was cheating her of the true happiness she deserved.

It wasn't until a breezy night in March when him and Helen were sitting next to each other in a swing on their front porch, Evan toddling around in front of them, that he mustered up the courage to tell her what he was thinking.

"Helen, I, um, I think we need to talk," He stuttered, scratching behind his ear.

Helen looked up at him with a knowing smile and an eyebrow raised. "Okay. What's going on?"

Colin took a deep breath and closed his eyes, fiddling with the bottom of his t-shirt. "I think we should get a divorce."

And she laughed.

Colin sputtered, looking down at Helen, who was shaking her head as she laughed. "What the bloody hell?"

Helen looked back up at Colin, smiling warmly. "I've been waiting for you to say that for at least two years, now." She put her hand on his knee. "Let me guess, things just don't feel the same, you don't feel romantic love anymore, just platonic love, you're in love with Jen, you want to stay friends and raise Evan together; am I missing anything?"

Colin stated at lost for words. She bloody knew everything! "How did you-"

"Colin, I have eyes. I'm not stupid. And besides, I've been feeling the same way.  We've been together a long time and we were young when we got married. It's okay, these things happen. I'm not mad."

"But what about Evan?" Colin looked at his son, who was chasing after Buckley in the front yard, giggling.

"What about him? I'm still going to live in Canada. I have friends here, a new teaching job, and I would never want to separate you from your son. I promise this isn't going to be one of those ugly divorces where one person gets the kid and the other gets the house. We're going to spend time with our son and raise him together, I'll keep the house, you move in with Jen, and then in return, you set me up with Chris Evans."

Colin laughed heartily, overjoyed at what he was hearing. "Alright, I'll see what I can do. And what makes you think I'll move in with Jen?"

She shook her head and laughed, "Because of the way she looks at you. Don't worry, you'll be fine."

************

The divorce was finalized two months later, Evan was excited with the idea of double the gifts on holidays, and Helen, true to her word, had been nothing short of wonderful and amazing. The only thing that was left was Jen.

One plane ride, two airports, one rental car, and one very frustrating traffic-jammed ride later and Colin was standing on Jen's doorstep in Los Angeles with a bouquet of daisies and lilacs. He couldn't remember every being so nervous in his whole life. What if Helen was wrong and Jen didn't feel the same way? What if she was with someone else?

He took a deep breath and rang the doorbell, looking around aimlessly. He heard Ava barking excitedly and the door opened. Jen smiled at him widely, her green eyes sparkling happily.

"Colin? What are you doing here? Come in!" Jen held the door open for him and he graciously stepped into the AC. Ava ran circles around his legs, tipping excitedly. "Ava, come on, knock it off!" She laughed.

"She's fine, don't worry."  Colin realized he was still holding the flowers and held them out to Jen. "For you."

She gasped and took them, smiling bashfully. "Thank you! They're so beautiful." Jen walked to her kitchen, Colin and Ava on her heels. "So what brings you here to LA? Is everything alright?" She asked as she put the flowers in a vase.

"Yeah, everything's fine. I just really needed to talk to you and thought it would be better to do it in person." Colin fiddled his fingers, drawing Jen's attention to them. Or rather the lack of a ring on his finger.

"You and Helen got divorced." It was a statement, not a question. Colin nodded and was immediately engulfed in a hug from Jen. "Oh my god, Colin! I'm so sorry!"

Colin laughed and reluctantly peeled her small frame off of him, but kept her close. "No, it's fine. We talked and realized we just weren't in love romantically like we used to be. We're still friends and she decided to stay in Canada and we have joint custody over Evan. I'm actually really glad it happened."

"You're glad you got a divorce? Not that I'm judging you and you seem happy." Jen questioned.

"Yeah, I am. Because I've fallen hopelessly in love with someone else." Colin replied, kicking himself internally at the worried look on Jen's face.

"Who?" She squeaked.

Colin cradled her face in his hands, smiling softly at the amazing woman in front of him. "You."

He didn't think he'd ever seen anyone smile so big. It almost looked as if Jen's face would split apart from the sheer joy of her grin. Colin couldn't help but life and hug her close, before picking her up and spinning her around the kitchen.

Jen laughed joyfully, her arms wrapped tightly around Colin's neck. Her feet hit the ground and rubbed Colin's scruffy cheek with her thumb. "I love you, too."

Colin couldn't help but kiss her, bringing Jen's body as close to his as physically possible. He had never been happier, never had felt so light and loved.

It was everything he ever could've wanted.
