"Bepo, I'm alright, don't worry."
"Sorry, [f/n]! I should have been more alert!"
Bepo is so funny. He's always apologizing, even if he has nothing to apologize for.
"It's alright!" You assure him, smiling cheerfully and ruffling fingers through his fur as he checks the bullet wound on your arm. Luckily it looks like the bullet just grazed you and, thankfully, there isn't another bullet lodged somewhere inside. "You're a nervous bear, aren't you?"
Though you ask with a kind smile there is still something in the back of your mind, making you worry about something else.. somebody else.
"Do you think Law will be okay?" You can't help it. He might be rude and kind of a stick in the mud that can't tell a joke from a brick in the face, a little cold at times and frankly a bit of an asshole, but he did save your life and let you borrow his clothes. So he can't be all bad, right?
"He'll be okay, our Captain is tough!" Bepo smiles widely, pumping his paw in the air as his big pointy teeth peek out and somehow looks even brighter than his fur. Bepo knows Law better than anyone so you just know to trust his instincts. With a little smile on your face, you let out a small giggle and join your fist with his paw in the air. It's in this moment that the door pushes open and with its eerie creak came an all-too-familiar face.
Speak of the Devil and he will so surely appear.
"What did you get yourself into now?" Law asks, and it's in a way that you can only describe without cutting too fine a point on it as... 'indifferent'. Like he doesn't really care for the answer. Like his eyes rolling languidly onto (what you assume is) the fray in his hoodie wasn't enough of a clue that an injury of such a minor magnitude phases him none. Or so you think, anyway.
"It's alright, just a little scratch," you point to your arm, though the wound still weeps a bit. But it surprises you, the move he takes next, after a tell-tale grunt. Despite your prior thought, the Captain takes a step or two closer, frowning. His gaze as penetrating as the bullet you just barely managed to dodge and to look away, you're sure, could warrant a death sentence.
"...You're troublesome," he says, then relieves Bepo of his efforts to patch you up to carry out the task himself. Meanwhile, your eyebrows have yet to leave your hairline for all the perplexity his actions have wrought. You clearly irritate him to no end but somehow that hasn't convinced the guy to kill you yet. You start to wonder if all this luck you're having lately is here to stay. Let's hope.
"We need to submerge now."
"Yes, Captain!" Your eyes follow the bear as he obeys his order and rushes out of the room, closing the door behind him. And your apology had barely begun before it was interrupted.
"I am glad you did what you did though," Law says. "It was brave."
He surprises you again, apparently making a habit of it now. Not only does he say he's glad of the stunt you pulled, but that he thought it was brave, too? You're not sure if that's when your eyes widen or if it's in the split second afterwards that you notice his stare has caught yours again. Locking his sets as he pulls your stitches tight and cuts the string.
"But now you're taking more of my supplies," he goes on. "No more jumping in front of bullets, okay [f/n]-ya?"
He almost sounds...concerned?
"Hm...No promises," you grin, clearly joking.
But then he smiles, and you've never seen him purely smile, and you swear your cheeks are suddenly much warmer than they were before. You find yourself unable to look away even as he returns to his feet and regains his regular stance.
"So stubborn." He sighs, with that smile still present on his face and getting harder to ignore. Worse still, it's becoming infectious.
"I am a delight," you chirp, tilting up your chin in the hopes to emphasize your delightfulness. You don't miss the fact he's quicker to duck his eyes away though. Nor is it missed that he's trying to hide his face underneath his hat... He's blushing...
You blink, struggling to process.
"Keep telling yourself that." He was still smirking though, you could see it.
"I'm not telling myself anything...that blush on your face is." You tease, feeling bold, a small smirk still visible on your lips though his has now vanished.
"I..." He stammers, voice a hitch higher than his usual. And he tries to save himself, clears his throat and straightens his posture, but the damage is done and you're never forgetting that look on his face. "I have work to do."
Of course he does.
He turns to leave the room but the redness of his cheeks has made its way to the top of his ears by now and, honestly, you think this is great.
"It's alright to find people good looking, you know," you shrug, smirk widening. "Hell, you're not so bad looking yourself."
With your now unwavering gaze, you stare fixated on the back of his head. He hasn't made an attempt to move since he turned and you're just dying to push your luck further.
"Now, turn around please?"
Law grunts, shoulders climbing up to his ears as he peers behind him, giving you a glare. Though he was glaring at you, the dark blush still remained.
"Why?" He asks, tensing up. Apparently not enjoying the teasing as much as you are. You can't help it, how could you when Law was this cute when he's flustered?
"Because I want to see that adorable face!" you hum, immediately spotting his eyes just about fall out of his head.
"Tch." Is the only noise he makes, turning his back on you yet again before leaving the room.
That was...an interesting encounter.
