Drip, drip, drip... That was all that could be heard as both girls stood in the silence of the moment.
"Please, just give me a minute. I promise it'll all be explained."
Ellie closed her eyes and dropped a previously clenched fist. "You have one minute. That's all."
"Thank you." Tegan's voice cracked with reassurance. "Okay, so it all started after we visited the cliff. Right after you left I got a text from Phil saying he needed me to come somewhere. He said it was urgent, and left me an address, the same one I gave you..." Quiet sobs began to come out of Tegan yet again.
"Keep going - I get you're sad and all, but I said a minute." Ellie stood staring at Tegan before closing her eyes again, Ellie's chest expanding in and out as she breathed quick, hurried breaths.
"I'm s-sorry. Anyways, I came because I knew that nothing would go wrong if I went somewhere with Phil or at least I thought that. I just went back to our pact, 'we'll never bring each other into situations that ruin our lives'. Now, I know he broke i-"
"And so did you, I don't want to hear your petty excuses; I want to hear your story front and center."
Tegan sighed, yet all that came out were a few shaky excuses of breaths. "As I arrived, I saw the same thing that you probably saw - blood dripping down the steps into the tunnels, and I ran in, scared for my life, and scared for Phil's life. As I arrived, I saw him being stabbed by a silhouette of a person probably a dozen times... There was so much blood... So much blood everywhere." Tegan paused, and glared at her trembling, gory hands. "I tried to save him, Ellie! I tried. That's how all of this blood got on my hands. Please you have to believe me."
Ellie opened her eyes again and took a few steps forward before dashing into Tegan's arms and grasping her tight. "I believe you Tegan. It's okay, it's all going to be okay." The girls, sat there on the cold, moist brick - Ellie cradling Tegan back and forth.

Down beside Avenue 31 was a boulevard, across from the boulevard was a large pool of water, that glistened in the moonlight - a river known as St. John's. Both girls carried Phil all the way down to the river bank, careful of where they stood, careful to make sure no one would see this. As they flung his body into the river, a large splash escaped the river. They both washed their hands in the water, weary and tired.
As they were walking away from St. John's a thought appeared in Tegan's mind: "Wait, what about the blood on the stairs, what are we going to do about that?"
"Okay, I have an idea. On the boulevard, there is a water fountain, and some cups, grab as many as you can and then we'll carry some of the water from the river and pour it over the blood. All we have to do is hope no one sees us."
The crime-scene was clean - or as clean as the amateur girls could make it. As they finished their cleanup, they both sat on the steps previously riddled with blood. It was now dawn and the sun was slowly rising up into the sky, playing hide-and-seek with the clouds. The darkness of the night was replaced with varying shades of oranges and yellows, each exploding further into their own patterns.
"What are we going to do now, Tegan? My family's probably worried sick. I-" Ellie sighed, "I just don't know what to do. If I go back home now, I'll be grounded for life. It'll basically be a prison sentence before I can even explain."
"Then don't go back, and don't tell them anything. This is now our problem."
