Tears

He saw them together

Jealousy 

Their laughs entered his ears

He tried distracting himself but nothing would work

There was this pain in his brain

It hurt so much

Then the pit in his stomach came and the tears somehow managed to escape

When he cried there was a rawness to it,

 like the pain was still an open wound. 

He would clasp onto something for support, 

anything, and then his whole body started shaking, rattling all that came into contact

The sobs were stifled at first as he attempted to hide his grief,

But then they came, 

he was overcome by the wave of his emotions,

and he broke down entirely, 

All his defenses washed away in those salty tears. 

She smiled, at them

Their laughs made happiness flow through her

She loved them both and seeing them together 

just made all the darkness disappear

She was happy

That they were happy

They matched each other

Step by step

touch by touch

She was overcome by a wave of emotions

She wanted to go over there and congratulate them

But she didn't want to ruin it

Ruin the perfect moment

Then she saw him 

he was a picture of grief, loss, devastation. 

It was the face of one who would had suffered countless times and couldn't do it anymore

And that happiness, was replaced with confusion

She looked and she saw that he was staring at them

But all she could see was happiness

Why would he be crying?

Why would he be crying when he saw them together?

She approached him 

She placed her hands onto his shoulder 

And stared deeply into his teary eyes

and just when she thought the breakthrough would come and he would trust her with his vulnerability,

 the shutters came down, 

and his emotions walled off

The box that had opened just a crack

Came crashing down and closed shut.

And as he watched them together, he put on the smile

That smile that brightened everyone around him

Everyone but him

and he would just wear it until everything was right again, 

Because sadly, He didn't know any other way
