By the time we reach the party, the boys have called several times to make sure we're all going to the concert. MICHAEL called Nancy telling her he wants to have her help with his make-up and Thomas called Abby saying he needed her to figure out which shorts look better. Me on the other hand had a phone call from James only to see what time we will leave the party. The boys are too nervous for there own good.
I walk into the living room and see Devin mixing some sort of drink. He looks at me and smiles. I smile back. His blonde hair gets in his green eyes and he brushes it away. He comes over handing me a drink. I smile and take the cup from him. He holds out a arm and I step into his arms and give him a side hug. He squeezes my hips and smiles.
"You look amazing Beck,"I gentley punch his shoulder. Nancy quickly grabs my phone and takes photos while we talk. I didn't realize how long I was hugging him tell Nancy and Abby cleared there throats. I step out of his hug and shrug.
"When's lunch, I'm starving,"I say. Devin grins and points to where Eric is attempting to flip burgers on the grill.
"Whenever numb nuts figures out all the girls are in the pool," he says. I nod and sit on the little love seat couch. I don't feel like going outside with all the populars and their boyfriends. Abby sits next to me while Nancy hands me my phone and perches herself on the arm of the couch. Devin sits down and takes a sip of his drink."What's your plans for tonight?" Devin looks at us. My phone rings and I look down. a text from James. I quickly nod for Abby to talk and she gives him all of the details, leaving out the parts about us dating the boys. I look at the message and my gut turns.
You look gorgeous, but I don't think he should have his arm so tight around your waist.I look at the photo. Its of me with the cup to my lips looking off in the distance while Devin's arm is placed around my waist. I mentally kick myself.
Don't worry. We're just friends. I reply. A few seconds later I get another message.
It better be. I'll see you tonight. I shake my head. Me and James are gonna have a talk about his issues when I get done here."Right Becky?" I look at Nancy who has her eyebrows raised and lips trying to hold back a laugh.
"Huh?"
"We we talking bout the boys and how one of them became great friends with you," Nancy sings. I smack her thigh and stare at Devin. His eyes seemed like they could kill but his body posture remained friendly and opened.
"YA, we all met some guys," I say shrugging my shoulders. It really isn't such a big deal.
Devin's eyes blare into mine. I just stare back, pleading with my eyes for him to understand. He squints his eyes for a minute then opens them back.
"Hmm, well it seems... interesting?" His voice falters for the word.
" Ya, it is. All of us are dating them." I say shrugging like its no big deal. Abby's and Nancy's faces turn into smirks, there eyes sparkling with the memories from last night. Abby smacks Nancy and Nancy smacks Abby's leg. The both bellow out in laughter on either side of me. I stare at Devin and he glares daggers at me. I raise my eyebrows in question and he just softens his eyes a little bit.
" Were you going to tell me about this... new man?" Devin leans forward in his chair causing his knees to be inches from mine. I hear Abby and Nancy make a bet about something but I don't seem to care at the moment.
"Ya. I was gonna tell you... I just needed to figure out when," I say as if I have been caught with my hand in a cookie jar. His eyes scold me again but his eyes can't hide the emotion of pain and sadness.
I look down and start fiddling with my dress. If he can't be civil with me about something that was none of his business then I better to go. I look up into his eyes and they are still slanted as if he is looking upon a test he failed. His mouth is in a firm line and his eyebrows are pulled down in the form of a v.
"Yo! Giggling females and over bearing Devin! Get your little Sam's out here and get a burger!" Eric yells from the open sliding glass door. We all turn to look at him and he's waving a spatula around like its some sort of wand.
"You better not of burned them you Dip weed!" Nancy yells from besides me. She stand grabbing my hand and Abby's. I hear Devin get up and follow us outside. Eric is placing the hamburgers on buns and handing them to all of us. His strong muscular arms popping in the shorts and apron he is wearing. I laugh as he tries flirting with Nancy, but she just gives him the finger and walks away moving her hips in a exaggeration walk.
I walk over to the small three people bar that's being occupied by my best friends. I can already tell... this is going to be one hell of a time...
