"It's complete," breathed the doctor, addressing nobody in particular. His careful eyes skimmed over the final program he had spent months on. Checking to make sure it was flawless. Perfected. He looked on in silence.
"Yes. We've come a long way," a women spoke entering the room. The sound of her heeled shoes echoed on the polished tiled floor. Tap. Tap. Tap. It cut through the hushed silence like a knife.
"So. Are the DA's complete?" She continued.
"Umm...y..yes," he stuttered.
Everything about her unnerved him. Everyone here was unsure about her character. She was always secretive, her expression guarded, you were never sure about what she was going to say or do next.
She looked at him, noticing the discomfiture in his eyes. She turned.
"Hmm," she murmured starting to lean over his shoulder, her eyes scanning like a machine over his work. She needed everything to be right. To be perfect.
There was a long pause.
"I'm impressed," she nodded with slight satisfaction, not-so-subtly hiding the slight tone in her voice. She managed a half smile but it had vanished as soon as it had appeared. That was about as close as he would've gotten to a 'well done' .
"I want everything complete by Thursday. The DNA strands. Everything. No later," she spoke softly, yet the authority lingered in the air long after she spoke. She straightened her back and tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear. She strode purposely out of the room, her heels going Tap. Tap. Tap.
The doctor sighed as the door shut behind her. The lab seemed a lot more relaxed once she'd left. He thought about all the files he had completed. All the programs. After all the long years of planning their dreams will finally become a reality.
He smiled. There project would be complete on Thursday. All their hard work. All the experiments.
It would all soon be over.
