There were about 30 intermediate runs all packed together. We skipped around a little bit because some of the runs would take you to another chairlift and we wanted to stay on the main one. So, after about 20 runs, we decided to head over to the black diamonds. The first run there was called Bengal Tiger. It was like one huge, steep curve. It was actually really run. At the end of the run there were some of the biggest rollers I've ever seen. Honestly, they were like 5 feet tall each. It was so fun. On the chairlift I pulled out my phone and checked the time. It was 12:30, and I had 5 missed calls. Three from my dad and two from George. I shot them each a quick text saying that I would be there soon.
"Guys, we were supposed to meet them at the chalet for lunch like, a half an hour ago." I said nervously.
"Crap" Sierra muttered.
"Um ok, let's look at the map at the top and see what the fastest way down would be." I said quickly. Right when we got off the lift we skiied over to the map to see what the fasted way down would be.
"It says if we take the double black diamond, Lovestruck down, it will take us right to the chalet." I said. Then I realized the caution sign right next to it. It read :
Caution: Experts only. May cause injury or death if you fall.
"Um, I don't know if this is such a good idea guys." Sierra said quickly.
"Oh relax, chicken." Maddie snapped.
"C'mon Sierra, you've done double blacks before, you can do this one, too." She took a deep breath and nodded.
We started out slow, doing huge turns so that we could control our speed.
"This isn't so bad." I said happily.
"I don't know." Sierra said, still nervous.
As we went farther down the hill, it got steeper and steeper until it was almost literally straight down. And that wasn't the worst part. It was all ice.
You can do this, I thought to myself. I did small turns so I wouldn't slip on the ice. Maddie and I made it safely to the bottom.
"WHOOO! That was awesome!" I screamed.
"Shut up, freak." Maddie giggled.
"Wait, where's Sierra?" Uh oh.
I looked up the hill. And I saw her. Sliding down on her butt.
"Oh wow, look at her." Maddie giggle again.
"Do you think she's hurt?" I asked worriedly.
"Nah" Maddie said casually, "She's fine."
Finally Sierra slid to the bottom. I skiied up to her. "Are you okay?"
"Ya, that was fun." She smiled.
"Stay on your feet next time, will ya?" Maddie joked.
"Sorry." Sierra said sheepishly.
Time for lunch.
