Dear Diary,
Well, I'm kind of stumped on what to write. Not because I don't know what to say but because I have had a lot on my mind lately and I don't know if there is enough paper in the world to fit it on. Right now I'm totally confused and absolutely do not know what to do whatsoever. The boys are clueless too (like always). We have limited time left but anyways, that comes later in the story. I guess I'll continue on from where Morgan left us off:
"Ewe I don't like pizza." I say almost gagging.
"What! How could you not like pizza! It's like the best food in the world!" Corey exclaimed, "There is just so much I don't know about you."
"Whatever, how about we tell scary stories or Ang do you not like scary stories either?" Morgan said jokingly.
"Well not really but I already shot down one idea and I don't want to be the one to shoot down another." I said slyly.
"Great then I'll go first," Jack said.
"Okay so once a very, very, very, very, very..."
"We get it Jack." Morgan interrupted.
"Fine." Jack said rolling his eyes.
"Once a very long time ago there lived a group of kids, just like us with two girls and two boys one boy being incredibly handsome...anyways, one night the group decided to get together on the night of all Hallows Eve at the cemetery for an all night sleepover. Now, this was no ordinary Halloween. Scientists had been gathering research and had found that on that Halloween of 1982 all of the planets would align to form a completely straight line. They had never expected anything like this to happen before. So, there had been many legends about the alignment of the planets. The most famous one had stated: When the planets come in contact with one another forming an aligning shape that will be the key that separates humans from the dead and brings them together. So, it would be in your best interest to stay at home, LOCK YOUR DOORS, and PRAY that the dead don't find you curled up in your closet or hiding underneath your bed. For, it will be a sign from the underworld that the world will be coming to a close end of the human existence. In other words, all hell will be let loose. So anyways, back to the group of kids. That Halloween night the kids set up they're sleeping bags in the cemetery because they had heard that the cemetery gets the best view. They were a bit suspicious when they showed up and they were the only four people there but let's face it these kids were idiots. They had each dozed off as the planets began to align. They were woken up by the shrieks and cries of their fellow townspeople and had realized they were too late. They tried to scream but for some reason they couldn't. Their hair had turned a ghostly white, and their souls had been stolen. So, the new legend for the aligning planets tells the tale of these four friends. It has been past down for years now to teenagers around the world, and now it has been past down to you."
I was way too scared to move at that point, as I anticipated that everyone else was also. Although, sleeping out in a cemetery did seem like fun...
Then all of a sudden Jack yelled out, "HIDE THEY'RE COMING FOR YOU!"
Everyone did just that too, hide. That was Jacks way of fun. Just to get a few giggles out of himself.
"That is SO not funny Jack you scared me half to death. I expected something lame though so I guess you did a pretty good job." Morgan said.
"Yeah...um well...I guess that was ok. Good job buddy I-I guess." Corey said looking around him as if the dead were coming for him too. Not to mention that he was the one that screamed the loudest.
"Yeah I actually thought that was a pretty good story! OMG you should so publish that!" I squealed with excitement knowing that I had a killer idea in mind.
"Yeah sure Angel." Jack said with a chuckle.
We couldn't help but burst into laughter at that point. I tried to stand up but my stomach was hurting so badly because of the laughing that I couldn't help but to topple onto Morgan who was also curled into a ball of giggles.
That's when we heard loud footsteps approaching the door so we all composed ourselves as to looking as if nothing happened. That's when the (not to be rude) but scariest looking lady I have ever seen stopped in the doorway of Morgan's bedroom and slowly opened the door as if she was going to pull it off its hinges. I must've shown my terror on my face because she looked at me first. Maybe she can sense fear I thought.
"You!" she said pointing to me, "Who are you!"
"Well I-I'm Angela Mason sir, I mean ma'am!" I said trying quickly to correct myself.
"Janice what are you doing here? What do you want from me now?" Morgan said as cool as ever. Man, I thought she has to put up with this terror everyday between her rotted teeth, almost bloodshot eyes, and wispy yellowy gray hair I couldn't be with her for more than ten minutes without having withdrawals. I'd rather have my parents continue to completely ignore my existence then this.
"That's mom to you young lady! And what did I say about that attitude of yours? Am I going to have to show your friends to the door?" Janice said with a blunt voice.
Just then I noticed her makeup and how unfinished and uneven it looked, as if she had been doing it while balancing on a ledge. You could tell that she tried really hard not to let anyone look at her true face by the way she cached it on like it was nothing.
"No but if you don't leave right now am I going to have to show you to the door?" Morgan said now getting angry.
The whole time the boys sat there unknowing of what to do. I jumped in just in time and said, "Actually Mrs. McCarthy we were just about to um...go out for icecream, isn't that right guys!" Everyone nodded their head vigorously.
"Is that so? Well okay then. Don't forget to shut the door on the way out." Her mom said as she began to slither away.
We got on our coats and shoes so fast as if we were in a race of some kind. The stairs were a drag but we eventually made it down after a while. We began the walk down the street to Abe's Icecream Wonderland, our local Icecream Parlor. We continued the walk in silence other than the jokes we cracked about Morgan's foster parents or 'rents as she would put it. I was happy that she did not get offended by them but also a little shocked. I mean, if somebody were to make fun of my parents even though I don't have a close relationship with them either it's still a sensitive topic for me.
As if you could not already tell my parents did not really pay that much attention to me. When I was on my way to Morgan's house I didn't even bother to tell them where I was going because I knew they wouldn't wonder or care. I slipped my phone number in my mom's phone hoping that she might use it someday, but so far nothing and nothing is yet to come I just know it.
Everything I have I have to buy myself: Makeup, clothes, school supplies, shoes and an endless amount of other things. Sometimes Corey even lends me a hand with money. I babysit around the neighborhood and last summer Corey even helped me open up a lemonade stand and we made a surprisingly large profit.
Just once I wish I could cause them the slightest bit of distress by not showing up home...ever, or getting hit by a car, or some other horrible thing that will make them feel sorry they didn't love me sooner. Wow, writing down my feelings really does help Corey was right.
Corey has been with me since I met him in third grade. All of my friends who were girls used to make fun of me and tease me for hanging out with a boy. We've always seen each other as friends, not boys and girls. That does not really stop me though from hanging out with him. He's my first best friend. Now I have Morgan and Jack to though, so I'm not feeling as lonely anymore. Although it's just not the same feeling loved from a best friend and feeling loved by your parents are two different things.
My thoughts were interrupted as I looked up to see that we had arrived at Abe's. I looked up to see the run down sign that must of at one point stood tall and lighted up the whole block. Now, the word Wonderland did not even light up anymore. This was the place to be in the fifties or at least that's what Ms. Perrison says when I go and visit her at the Nursing Home. I like to volunteer at places like that. Where I get to meet new people who are actually interested in what I have to say.
We entered the Icecream Parlor and I looked around at all the bright and vibrant colors that surrounded me: all the neon pinks, turquoise blues, the black and white checkered floors and in big lit up neon blue letters right in the middle read 'Abe's Icecream Wonderland'. It was neat to see something that used to be so youthful such a long time ago. We stepped up the counter and ordered our icecream.
"Can I just have a scoop of strawberry icecream in a bowl please?" Morgan asked the woman at the counter who was wearing a dress tight in the waist but loose and flowing at the bottom in a peculiar shade of light blue. Her hair was an obviously dyed jet black color, but the giveaway to her true age was her eyes. They were the lightest shade of baby blue I've ever seen with wrinkles surrounding them. She must have seen a lot over these past couple of decades.
"Of course! Anything for a valued customer!" She replied with a grin that looked just as worn out as the building.
"Oh for me in a cone I'll have a scoop of chocolate, pistachio, vanilla, cookie dough, and..." Corey said being cut off by the lady. Who as I get a closer look at name tag said Greta. What an interesting name...Thank you to everyone who has read our story so far! Please don't be afraid to comment your thoughts and opinions on it so far. Please share this story with your friends!
