Adrianna pulled several papers out of the seating compartment in front of her. A safety pamphlet, a travel magazine and the shopping book.
"When we are back, Wednesday did not happen, you get it?" Adrianna said, turning her head towards a quiet Marx, who had been relegated to window seating.
Marx nodded in silent agreement.
Adrianna smiled, taking the safety pamphlet and hitting her husband's right arm in playful motion. Marx did not react. He rested his head on his seat, still thinking about that awkward moment with the kids back at the gate. Marx peeked to his right at the centre row. The kids were quietly sitting down, with headphones plugged in and their handphones taking their attention. Marx felt relieved.
The seatbelt lights turned on, and a distinct sound was heard.
The plane's engines started, and the craft made rumbling noises as its wheels dragged along the runway asphalt.
Marx looked out of the window, taking a final glance at the Asian city.
"Welcome aboard Atlas Airlines. In the seat pouch in front of you, there is a safety booklet. Please read the emergency procedures and familiarize yourself with the exit doors on the plane." The television screens around the cabin all displayed the same safety video.
Adrianna was not paying much attention, she was instead reading her own book, with her blue Sony earpieces plugged in and blasting her favourite music.
Marx watched the entire safety video, which consisted of beautiful air stewardesses in the iconic Atlas uniforms showing how to use the inflatable vests and the brace positions.
Marx watched as other planes on the runway drove about. The plane started moving faster, eventually tilting off the runway and flying into the air, providing a good look at the cityscape.
Marx felt that he should not be worried so much about the awkward gate interaction. He would not have to see the kids again after touchdown.
Marx forced a smile, and focused his eyes on his wife, who was oblivious to his watch. Marx filled his thoughts with his beautiful wife, and how he was going to make it up to her once they returned home.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. This is the captain speaking. We have lifted off Changi and we should be reaching New York in about twenty four hours. We are expected to touchdown at about six pm tomorrow. Weather forecast for New York tomorrow evening is cloudy, with a chance of rain. Once again, we thank you for choosing to fly with us, and have a good trip."
Adrianna closed her book, and leaned in towards Marx. She said "Aww, I'm sorrrreeeee. Don't sulk. Okay?"
Marx nodded his head once more, and gave his wife a peck on the lips. She rested on his arm, and hugged it with both arms.
Marx felt more comfortable and assured that everything was going to be okay from this point on.
He did not know.
