"Whooow! Are those tears?"
I heard Nathan cry out in amazement. I forced myself to deviate my thoughts from past to present. "Whoow! Amazing!" He added while jokefully raising his hands in faked disbelief.
"Nathan, will you please stop joking about this..." I said in a hoarse voice for the crying had dried my throat. He sat down beside me and looked at me. When I saw his face, he was already wearing a frown. That was a sign that he was taking this seriously already. We sat in silence for a few minutes, contemplating. Then after what seemed like an eternity, he spoke up. " It's really that serious now, isn't it?"
"Yes. Mom wants me to go away with her! " I said as tears threatened to flow again. "She's taking me to London.Would you believe that?! She is making me suffer just because my father's an a**hole!" I couldn't control the tears anymore. The feeling of helplessness and anger was drowning my spirit again. "Nath, I don't want to go. What am I going to do? Why does she have to drag me away from my life here? Life's going to be unbearable with her. She never really cared for me. This is all just about her. What about me? Its's so unfair! And you won't be there with me..." I cried out before finally breaking down into huge sobs.
He hugged me close and for the first time that day, I could feel my worries ease up. As long as Nathan was there, I knew I was safe from the cruelties life was to offer me. How could I survive without these arms that held me protected? That was purely unthinkable.
"Hush.... everything's going to be alright." But then even his voice sounded uncertain. "We'll think of something. We'll figure this out. But for now, you must get some rest. " He said in a reassuring voice. "Lex, you need to get some sleep. Cause you... you look awful. Remember that time you stayed up the whole night and by morning you looked like an old witch with sore eyes? Well the way you look now can pretty much be a sequel..." He added in a teasing tone. I knew he was trying his best to make me forget my worries, at least for awhile. It was so like him to tackle problems with a brave smile upon his face, and to encourage others to do the same.
"I do not!" I exclaimed. "You're lying.." Despite the troubles that weighed me down, I found myself smiling. I jokingly punched him in the arm.
"See! You look lovely when you smile so I highly recommend that you do more of it than worrying. Now why dont we put into action that rest we where talking about. Get to bed little Miss Lexie, " he ordered while pulling back the cover of my bed. I immediately complied for the headache was already shooting crucifying holes at my temples.
After he made sure I was tucked in comfortably, he sat down at my bedside. " Hmm... I knew you just wanted me to tuck you in, bratty Lexie.."He was still teasing.
"Nathan!...Stop teasing me..."
"Okay...okay.. Just didnt want you to sleep wearing a frown on your face." He then took my hand in his and looked me straight in the eyes. "Goodnight Lexie...stop worrying okay?Things will turn out for the good. God will make sure of it. Believe me. Take care of yourself please... Promise me you'll put this off until tomorrow and try to get some sleep. Sweet dreams..."
