Slipping on a low-cut black top, a sparkly short skirt and sparkly heels, I asked Esther, "Can you do a smokey eye?"
'Sure," she said as she walked over and picked up my eyeshadow brush. After she finished, she turned me around in her chair to face the mirror. I had to admit, I looked pretty good. "Thanks Esther!"
She shrugged like it was no big deal and changed into her gold dress. Lauren walked in with her sparkly silver dress, and smiled at us. "Looking gorgeous!"
We thanked her, grabbed our clutches, and jumped in Esther's car headed to Kevin's apartment. "Ok, whose going to be the designated driver?," Esther asked. "I guess I will," Lauren said. "Thanks Lauren," Esther and I said to her. I should've guessed that there was going to be alcohol here. It's a high school party for goodness sake.
We pulled up to the front curb and Esther dropped us off and then went to find a place to park. Once Esther joined us, all three of is went inside the building. I hopped in the elevator and pushed the button for four.
"Ok girls, three rules for the party. One, don't leave the party without me. Two, don't do anything stupid or embarrassing. Three, have fun!," Esther said and with that the elevator doors opened revealing a living room packed with half-drunk people stumbling all over each other. Esther ran to catch up with her friend Liana, stepping over someone passed out on the floor, leaving Lauren and I staring at the chaos in front of us.
Lauren and I exchanged a look before we promised each other to stay together. "I'm going to try to find Bryan, Jacob is probably with him."
Jacob was Lauren's boyfriend for over two months now, a record in our group of friends. Bryan and I have been going strong for about three weeks now after Esther set us up.
Making our way through the living room, we decided to stop in the kitchen and there they were. "Hey Bryan," I said stepping out of the shadows of the hallway with Lauren at my side. 'Hey baby girl, what took you so long?"
"It takes a while for us girls to get ready," I said as I playfully punched him in the shoulder.
He snaked his arm around my waist and pulled me close to him planting a kiss on my head. "Wanna drink?," he asked me pushing a plastic cup of beer towards me. "No thanks," I said. "Why not?," he asked. Couldn't he see that I just didn't want it? "I'm driving tonight," I lied. "I see," he said.
"There's Jeffrey. I'll catch you later, ok babe?," he asked as he walked away. "Okay.....," I responded. I was left alone in the kitchen. Lauren and Jacob were making out in the hallway, so I was really completely alone. I made my way to the living room in search of Esther, and tripped and fell into this guy. "I'm so sorry," I said as he helped me get back on my feet.
"What's your name beautiful?," he said.
Something about him made me resist the urge to walk away.
"Emma. Emma Stevenson," I said.
"You made the ColorGuard today right?," he asked me.
My boyfriend Bryan couldn't even remember enough to congratulate me but a complete stranger knew. What the hell?
"Yeah, I did," I responded looking at him curiously.
"Well congratulations. I know it's a big thing with you girls. I'm Reid by the way," Reid told me.
"Nice to meet you, but I have to go find my friend," I told him and walked into the living room.
After 15 mins I found Esther with a group of seniors half-drunk laughing like maniacs. I walked over and took a seat next to her on the couch. "Hey, where have you been?," she slurred. "With Lauren," I responded. She nodded her head very slowly but it perked up when she heard someone suggest the game of truth-or-dare. "We should totally play," she said to me. "Umm.....," I said glancing around trying to find Lauren. With no luck I gave in. "Okay."
