I call this chapter four.
Angel stood by my bed helping me cram things in my bag while my grandmother and mother still fought in the opposing room, "you have too many clothes, Annie." He smiled at me and slung the bag over his shoulder. At that moment, I was for sure that my grandmother was going to stop us in the middle of the hallway, but once we reached her... she smiled. She was standing up as straight as an old lady could stand, with tears in her eyes. She moved out of our way, "call as soon as you get there." And that was that.
The car ride was loud as Angel drove to Unknown Destination, but he played the radio, humming to every song when we both knew he was singing nonsense,
"Angel?"
"Yep."
"Where are we going?"
"A place, you'll love it. I promise." He reached for my hand and I let him hold it.
I pulled out The Great Gatsby from our bag and kissed it until Angel looked at me oddly.
"This book has given me so much luck-" I began.
"You know what? I think just amazing things happen when Wallflowers get together," he laughed. Even though he got off my speech, I smiled back at him.
I woke up, yet my eyes still closed, as Angel cried. I was pretty sure it was either him or the radio and I doubted that they considered moans of sadness as music. He was mumbling, whispering to himself, something about life not turning out the way he wanted. Something about me.
I rolled so that the seat belt rest across my bosom, but he kept his eyes on the road.
"An, I'm taking you home."
"What do you mean?" I grabbed his arm, you could almost feel the car swerve.
"You deserve much better than me. Your mother is better than me."
I looked at him, lost for words, "I want to be with you. Regardless off what lies ahead; I want to do it with you."
He braked slowly on the empty highway until car stopped on the empty highway, "you a lucky one genius."
My mouth opened to correct him, but I only found myself smiling. Like it wasn't hard to do so just three months ago.
