Chapter One
I sat next to him on the warm white sand, the clear crystal blue ocean glimmering in the sunlight.
"I love you so much Marisol."
I turn my head and look at him. "I love you too Anthony."
He leans in closer to me. The smell of his axe cologne begins to empower my nostrils with every inch he takes. His lips brush against mine for a brief moment. I look into his chocolate brown eyes. They begin to slowly dissolve and disappear. "No...No...Come back!" I start yelling. "Don't leave me..." I whisper.
I quickly jump out of my sleep and look around. My body was covered in sweat and a strong hammering was coming from my chest. Looking around my room I realize it was just a dream. A low sigh escapes between my lips. Reluctantly I crawl out of bed, making my way to the bathroom. I look into the mirror. Every day was the same routine over and over again.
“Another day of high school, I wonder how it will end this time.” I mumble to my reflection.
High school was no walk in the park for me. Thankfully I was one of the few ‘losers’ who weren’t bullied non-stop. In the end it was just hard finding true friends, especially for a shy girl like me.
I walk out of the bathroom towards my closet. Rummaging through the large amount of clothes I finally find something. “Red skinny jeans with a black shirt seem good.” I say sliding the clothes onto my body.
Walking back to the mirror, I start applying my daily makeup: black eyeliner, super bright red lip-gloss, and smoky eye shadow to finish it off. I grab one of my favorite red and black checkered bows and pin it neatly into my long black hair.
I slowly walk downstairs taking every step cautiously. Every step felt like I was walking closer and closer to the battle field.
"You can't keep going through my phone! I am my own man!"
"Then tell me who keeps calling you in the middle of the night Marcos."
"Who keeps calling me in the middle of the night? Who else would be calling besides my B-O-S-S? Are you kidding me?”
I stand there for a few minutes to test if they will even notice me. My parents were always fighting; they had trust issues that neither of them felt counseling could solve. As always I was invisible to them. I shake my head in disgust and grab my backpack before making my way out the door. Walking to school felt extraordinary today. The cool crisp November breeze blew peacefully against my skin. I feel a buzz from my back left pocket. A text from Amy pops up on my screen.
"Meet me at the stop sign; I'll drive you to school”
I start racing down the street towards the stop sign. Amy was one of my best friends. We've known each other since preschool and been stuck like glue ever since. Amy was tall with dark brown hair and plastic framed glasses. The thing I loved most about Amy was the fact that she wasn’t shy like me; in fact Amy was part of the cheer team. Co-captain to be exact. She was different from the rest of the squad though because unlike them Amy didn’t care about her reputation and still hung out with me during school. Even when the other cheerleaders asked what she was doing with ‘someone like me’, Amy still stood by me.
I finally get to the stop sign; Amy’s black BMW was already waiting for me. I make my way into the car and smile at her.
“How did you know I was going to walk today?” I ask her.
“Let’s just say I’m a badass wizard who knows things.” She replies with a cocky smile. Today Amy was wearing a tight pink tank top with CHEER written across the chest, black skinny jeans and pink hello kitty vans. Another thing I loved about Amy was her sense of style. Something that might look slutty on everyone else looked casual on her.
