My name is Thomas Martin from Richmond,Virginia my father is an officer in the confederate army.
He has been sent off to a place called Manassas to stop a union army coming to take Virginia shouldn't be to hard right.this war should be over in a blink of an eye.
July,22,1861
"Thomas breakfast is ready" my mama said as I go down and see a post rider running through the corn fields.
He gets off his horse"mai'm your husband is no longer with us" he say as my mama burst in tears.
After breakfast mama gather me and my two sisters Susan and marianna"children I have to tell you something your father has died.... he died yesterday on the battlefield" she said as well all start to cry.
*Later that day*
As I am working the field with the slaves my father bought a few years ago I am thinking to myself if I should join and avenge my fathers death or stay here and do what my father thought me to do.
