Emma Swan pushed open the door to the quaint café and a ding announced her arrival. Her floral summer dress rested against her perfect skin and her golden curls trailed down her back. A designer purse was clenched between her freshly manicured hands.
She peered around the busy room, scanning for who she was meeting. Her light smile drooped a bit once she realised he hadn't arrived. Emma shook it off, and went to sit at an empty table. She wasn't going to let a late date ruin her afternoon.
The clock on the wall struck four, the time Emma was meant to meet Walsh Oz. Her friends had recommended him and a date was set, she had been looking forward to it dearly. She tried to not let his lateness affect her impression of him.
A waitress came over to her, "Good afternoon," She smiled down at Emma. "Can I offer you some tea? Or cake? I can come back if your waiting for someone." Emma felt slightly embarrassed, she had never had to be the person to wait before.
"I'm waiting for someone right now, could you come back in ten minutes?" The waitress nodded and shuffled away.
Ten minutes passed and Emma still sat alone at her table waiting for Walsh. The waitress came over, offered her food and drink but was once again turned down. This time, a few sympathetic looks were passed to her by those around her. Emma's cheeks grew hot.
The clock read half passed four. Still, no Walsh. This time when the waitress came over, Emma was annoyed. "He's not here yet, OK? Just come over when you see someone sit down with me!" She snapped.
"I'm sorry, ma'am, but you have to give up your table for others if you're not ordering anything." Emma's mouth opened, she felt so humiliated. People were staring at her and whispering. Walsh was not the guy she thought he was.
Suddenly, a man walked over to her table. "I'm here! Sorry about the wait, I live far away and the traffic was not my friend!" He chuckled deeply. Emma was confused by his accent, her friends didn't mention Walsh was British. Nor did they mention he had gorgeous blue eyes and dark soft hair.
The waitress left them to get a menu.
"Walsh?" Emma asked, confused by the man's appearance.
"No, Killian. Killian Jones. This Walsh guy is a horrible person and you don't deserve to be humiliated by him, so I thought I'd stop your waiting and give you a good time." He flashed her a grin and she gave him a genuine smile back. Only five minutes had passed in his company and Emma had already forgotten about Walsh and his lateness.
They talked. They laughed. They smiled. They ate. It was perfect and they both couldn't have asked for a better afternoon.
At six, the cafe began to close up. Emma and Killian left the building and stood outside.
"Thank you, Killian, for saving my life back in there. I don't know what I would've done without you. Walsh can go dig himself a hole." They both giggled at this.
"It's my pleasure. You're a wonderful woman, Emma, and I hope you say yes to going out on a real date with me." He took her hand and planted a kiss on it, his eyes never leaving hers.
Emma knew her answer as soon as the question left his mouth. "Of course I will, my knight in shining armor."
"I wouldn't say knight, more of a pirate." He smirked, causing Emma to blush.
They parted ways, both thankful that a horrible man was late to a stunning date. If he had arrived on time, a future husband and wife would've never met.
