Unexpected Course

Chapter 2

Beep! Beep! Beep!

I hear my alarm screaming in my ear as a slowly wake up to the smell of eggs and bacon. I make my way downstairs to my mom making breakfast for once. "Ready for the big day? It's showtime today!" She screams excitedly. I anxiously eat and go out to the stalls to get the horses ready. I'm feeling that today is going to be a great show!

I tack Shrek up first as kids and parents all start showing up. Once Sara shows up we tack Aria and go in to the practice arena! I make a check list for us to look of off..

1. Shrek and Aria both have their hair at show regulation.

2. Both horses ate and got cleaned up.

3. No injuries to worry about and all tack is on correctly.

4. Sara and I have our uniforms on and our show helmets are clean.

5. Numbers are strapped on to our backs once in the show arena.

I check everything off just as i hear the buzzer for all riders to enter the ring. Sara goes to her family real quick as I lead the horses towards the ring. I am now very nervous and there are way more people here than usual. I hope we both do well under this pressure to come in first place for our age groups!

Just as Sara comes back the announcer calls out the patterns. I tell Sara them once more and she is up first. "You can do this! Your family is here, I am here, and you have done so well in practice! Get up there and show the best you have ever shown!", I encouraged Sara.

After 5 more age groups the 17 year olds are up. "Let the nerves begin", I thought to myself. I memorize the course and am up first. I hear the announcer call my name in the distance," Lyla Allen, 17 years old up first, has been riding for 12 years now on her horse Shrek!", he bellows out. The announcer stops talking and I'm off!

ELI POV

"My sister better get first in her division because I did not want to get dragged here on a Saturday! Now, we even have to stay and watch her trainer. Well, she's up now so it shouldn't be so bad", I thought. "Woah, she looks familiar! Who is that, because I know I've never met Sara's trainer before!", I said aloud as the announcer says her name. Lyla Allen, she goes to my school is all that went through my head. I knew that now she is the girl Chelsea beats up everyday.

I now can't help but be amazed at how well she rides. Every jump she and her horse takes is so gentle and easy. I have a good feeling in my stomach and throughout my body. I think i need to get to know Sara's trainer better now, and I know exactly how.

LYLA POV

I finish my run with no mistakes! Shrek was perfect! Sara runs up to me as age groups get called up for placings.

By the end of the show Sara and I each had a blue ribbon for us and our horses as well. We each were the best in our groups. I couldn't be any prouder, everyone has come such a better rider this season.

It started to get late as I needed to clean stalls and horses so I told Sara and she got her family. And by family, I mean her brother, because her parents went home right after the show. I needed to tell her brother how well Sara had done so I guess I could meet him.

"Oh no", I panic as I see Eli Walters come up to me with Sara holding his hand. "Lyla! This is my brother, Eli, he is 17 just like you!", Sara announces. As Sara runs to the car, Eli and I are left alone for everything to become awkward.

"So, um, Sara did amazing today and she has a lesson Monday night I believe if you could tell your parents that? Thanks.", I try to get away from him fast to avoid talking to the schools most popular kid. Ugh, why does he have that smirk on his face as I walked away so quickly. Just as I was about to turn in to Shrek's stable an arm grabbed me. "You did amazing too today." Eli says slow and softly. I stood in my place shocked. Is the popular, ice hockey playing, track star, Eli Walters flirting with me?

A/N- mwahahaha, so i think this chapter is okay. I left everyone a bit of a cliffhanger. The story will get better as the whole concept of it gets more into detail. But for now all you have to read is this! IM SORRY! Lol, I'll try to update more but it's hard. But, anyways, good reading:) -from Sam!
