The strange strum of an out of tune guitar sounded through the silence. A phone buzzed two times before a hand stretched out from the bed, towards the annoying presence. Bringing the object towards the face of a person, this is (Y/N). (Y/N) is currently laying in her new bed, new sheets.

Her surroundings were of unfamiliar walls of light beige and cedar brown floors. Her white sheets danced around her body that laid over it. (Y/N) picked up her phone from the umber colored nightstand that sat beside her bed. She looked at the caller, it was her mother.

The soft voice of her mother echoed lightly through the room.

"Hi mama,"

"Did you get to the apartment safely, Mija?" (Y/N)'s mother's accent bled through her English. The familiarness left (Y/N) with a feeling of comfort.

"Yes, mama, it's a good apartment," An airy laugh slipped through (Y/N)'s lips. She shifted in her bed, she plopped onto her back and stared at the ceiling. "How is papa, mama? He's not overworking again, right?"

"No, no, he's been resting, don't worry," (Y/N)'s mother assured her, the girl could picture the scene... Her mother looking over her shoulder and into the living room, holding the phone with both hands to her ear. Her father lying on the couch with the TV on, watching some animated show he wanted to introduce to his little girl. "Be safe out there, don't go dancing and focus on your studies!"

"Yes, mama. I promised you this a million times," (Y/N)'s chest bubbled with laughter. "Should I promise again? Huh, mama?"

"No, no, it's fine. You must've had a long flight already," Her mother paused before continuing. "You better not forget to take those papers in, otherwise you won't be able to register."

"I got it, mama, don't worry... Take care of yourself,"

"Ai, that's what I should be saying! Get some rest, girl! Tell me all the drama you get from school,"

"Ahahaha! Sure, sure. I gotta go unpack now, thanks for waking me up."

"Remember, Mija, you'll always have a place in this house," (Y/N) and her mother parted after a few more goodbyes. She sat up in bed and looked over at the unpacked boxes. Exhaustion rushed over her as she remembered the struggle of taking out the smaller objects. She flopped back down and pressed her cheek into her pillow.

'I wish mama were here...' (Y/N) remembered her mother, the one who wandered around the house and placed little trinkets here and there. The mother who helped her pack her things with the record she played when she wanted to dance playing in the background. (Y/N) knew her mother would help her with unpacking.

But now it was something she would do alone.

She fell asleep.

BEEP! ... BEEEP! ... BEEEEP!!!

(Y/N)'s hand shot to her phone, roughly grabbing the device and smushing her finger against the already cracked protective screen. Her frustration screwed her face, she pressed more lightly and the alarm finally stopped.

'What am I supposed to do today?' Her memory immediately reminded her and she rushed off the bed and into a shower. She cleaned herself up, carefully brushing her hair and fitting it into a high ponytail. Then she slipped on an orange sweater that was a bit too small at the waist, rising slightly. However, it was baggy at the sleeves. After slipping on some shorts, (Y/N) slipped her satchel over her head and headed to her door. She slipped on her socks and shoes, rushing out the door.
