(Y/N) fiddled with her phone.

"Do you have a texting app?" She asked Ayanokoji. The girl's face looked stiff, her eyebrows downturned in a way. (Y/N) could only describe Ayanokoji as annoyed. Frustrated, maybe. She slowed her steps down.

"Why are you following me?" Pause. For the past few days, (Y/N) was making an effort to meet with Ayanokoji. The two were only a year apart, so they had similar gaps in their schedules. (Y/N) jumped at the opportunity to make a new friend. Unpause.

"Hm?" (Y/N) hummed, she stopped her button pressing and tilted her head. Looking at the red head in front of her who stopped and turned her head over her shoulder. Clearly aggrieved. "You don't want to be friends?"

"Answer my question." Ayanokoji crossed her arms over her chest.

"Answer my questions first. I'll tell you afterwards."

"One. No. I don't use social media. Two..." Ayanokoji seemed to have gotten flustered. She huffed and turned back around. "What's the use of friends?" She began walking away again. (Y/N) trailed after her.

"Well, I want to be your friend. That's why I'm following you." (Y/N) hummed again and pressed a finger to her lips. "The use of friends... they're there for you? People to talk to, someone you get along with, stuff like that,"

"How disappointing." Ayanokoji went on her way, before stopping again and pointing a finger at (Y/N). "And stop following me!"

(Y/N) held her hands up in surrender. Ayanokoji let out a little huff. She left in quick succession. "Fine..." (Y/N) sighed and pressed a hand to her forehead. She still had a while before break ended. Her class was nearby but what was the point of getting there early when she didn't have anyone to talk to?

It was nearly the weekend, (Y/N) jolted in place and started rummaging through her bag. Pulling out her camera, she started to check the settings. She began to walk around the little garden. Her eyes scanned back and forth.

The air was cold against her skin. Her breath was nearly visible. (Y/N) shook her head, her mind becoming distracted at the temperature. She tugged at her coat, inwardly wondering how Ayanokoji managed to go around without a jacket. Maybe she should gift the red head a scarf or something.

KKCH! KKKCHH! KKKKCH!

A few photos were taken. (Y/N) got some scenic pictures. The academy was very beautiful after all. Her eyes began to scan for more photo worthy places when she caught sight of a pretty girl stumbling outside. A young boy tried to follow her but got startled when he realized someone was watching. He grew flustered. Turned tail and left.

"Are you okay?" (Y/N) took off her jacket and placed it around the stumbling girl's shoulders. She shivered in the cold, most likely from the sudden temperature change of the school to outside. (Y/N) took two ends of the jacket and squeezed it lightly in her hands, at the girl's neck. Her head became positioned so as to look up at (Y/N).

"Y, yes." The girl's voice was quiet, but calm. She looked a bit dizzy, or light headed. As she came to her senses and she noticed their closeness, her cheeks went red with embarrassment. She lowered her eyes.

"Do you wanna take a seat? There's a bench nearby." (Y/N) tried to not breath too roughly, to not puff in the girl's face. She nodded and (Y/N) and her went over to the bench. (Y/N) remained standing, leaning from leg to leg and moving in slight increments. She couldn't generate heat this way, but she kept trying anyway.

A silence spread between the two. (Y/N) looked around before whistling. She picked up her camera, fiddling with the settings. She looked at the girl with a smile. "Can I get your name, miss?"

"Huh? Oh, Kasugazaki Kanako..."

"It's nice to meet you! I'm (Y/N) (L/N)." (Y/N) reached her hand out to shake Kanako's. "You're really pretty."

"Mn? Thank you." Kanako took (Y/N)'s hand, and stood up. She lightly held the jacket and hesitated. Then the bell rang, signaling they only had about five minutes to get to class. "Class has almost started, we should get going,"

"What class do you have? I'll walk you there," (Y/N) watched Kanako take the jacket off her shoulders and fold it, offering it back to (Y/N). She smiled and took back her jacket. "Thanks."

"Sure,"

Kanako had a more gentle vibe to her. She was softer than (Y/N)'s friends.

"Which class is it?"

"Language Arts, 2B."

"Really? I also have that class. Where do you sit?"

"Usually in the front."

"Oh, I sit in the back." (Y/N) and Kanako had a calm conversation on the way to class. Kanako smiled at (Y/N) a couple times, so (Y/N) felt the littlest bit more comfortable following the girl around for the next few days.

-

Days had gone by and (Y/N) had given Ayanokoji space.

Today, the fiery girl came to seek out (Y/N). Her cheeks were red and her arms crossed over her chest. She bit the inside of her mouth, gnawing at the skin lightly. She had developed such a habit whenever she was anxious. She waited outside the 2B classroom, silently watching students file out and get intimidated by her.

"Oh hey! Ayanokoji, it's nice to see you!" (Y/N) was immediately friendly to the girl. She waved her hand up in a greeting and told Kanako to go on without her. Kanako's face contorted when she saw Ayanokoji, but with (Y/N)'s urging, she took her leave. Giving the red head a quick nod in greeting. "So, did you need me for something?"

Ayanokoji paused, she looked down. Perhaps everyone already knew what happened at the host club... Her image must be ruined. She pressed her lips in a line. "Never mind, there was no point in coming here." She must have already made up her mind. Ayanokoji turned her back and started walking away.

"Wait! Why are you leaving?" (Y/N) grabbed Ayanokoji by her wrist, stepping forward to catch up to the girl. "Did something happen? What's wrong?"

"..." Ayanokoji felt at a loss. Did the girl not know? Such a humiliating event, surely this person would have heard about it? "You really... don't know?"

"Don't know what?" (Y/N)'s eyebrows furrowed with concern, she didn't drop Ayanokoji's hand. Simply catching up and grasping the red head's hands in hers. "Are you okay?"

"Yes," Ayanokoji felt her breath catch in her throat. Not once has anyone besides men and her family held her hand. Even her family stopped after childhood. Her heart stuttered with an unknown feeling. She closed her eyes, calling herself to settle down. "I just... wanted to ask if you'd... text me some time."

"Of course!" (Y/N) didn't hesitate to respond. Even before Ayanokoji brought out her flip phone. The dated object left (Y/N) thinking it must be a style thing. She knew people tended to lean toward style, of course some people could have more than one phone. (Y/N)'s phone wasn't that new either. All sorts of reasoning swirled in her mind, distracting her from Ayanokoji frantically pressing buttons.

Snapping back to reality, (Y/N) felt herself smile at the little stumbling of the girl. It didn't take long for them to exchange numbers. (Y/N) went home happy that day.
