Fifth year under the tree by the lake.
"See! It's really not that hard once you understand the formula!" Fifth year Lily Evans explained to a little third year. She nodded enthusiastically in response before collecting her books and going back to the castle. "Have fun Callie!" Lily yelled as she retreated into the distance. After classes she tutored other students.

"Hello lily." Said Remus lupin, passing by her. . "How are you doing today?" He asked, looking down at her from where he was standing.

"Good, you?" She responded.

"As good as I'll ever be." Lupin replied gloomily- tonight was the full moon. "Anyway, I have to go, nice chatting with you!" He waved as he walked off.

"Bye!" She called after him. She sighed and began to gather her things before she became overwhelmed with the heat and just lay back against the trunk of a tree and closed her eyes.

"Hello, Evans." Her old friend sneered. Without looking up or opening her eyes she simply stated

"Sod off Snape." She could hear a few people cackling, but couldn't quite identify them without opening her eyes. But that was to much work. She heard retreating footsteps and smiled to herself as she relaxed again.

She dozed a little but snapped wide awake to something licking her face.

"I swear to Merlin if it's Potter again I will hex him to Mars and back." But as she opened her eyes and shoved the being off her she almost heard... Laughter? Coming from the dog she shoved off. "Aww! What a cutie!" She cooed and beckoned to the big dog. He bounded over and sat down right in front of her.

"Arf!" He shouted. What he barked next sounded an awful lot like 'Potter' but the was impossible, wasn't it? And those big brown eyes, oh lord they looked familiar. Again impossible though isn't it?

She got a little ball that she kept in her pocket when she was bored in class and showed it to the dog. He cocked his head and looked at her like 'seriously? That's the best you can do?!' She rolled her eyes and whispered 'engorgio!' Which the ball then grew to two or three times its original size. The dog looked at her and jumped up, then lay down on his front paws, wagging it's tail.

"Fetch!" She shouted as she threw the ball as far as she could. The dog ran and came back in less than 10 seconds with the ball in his mouth.

"PADFOOT?" Could be heard across the grounds. "PADFOOT WHERE IN MERLINS NAME ARE YOU?!" Lily rolled her eyes at James potter's stupid calls.

The dog was looking at the pacing boy amusedly and cocked his head then turned back to lily and jumped on her, dropping the ball and licking her face again.

"AH! St-stop! Stop that tickles!" She screeched in laughter while her voice echoes across the grounds.

"SIRIUS BLACK I ORDER YOU TO STOP!" The dog stopped for half a second, almost in fear, then continued licking Lily's face. "PADFOOT I SWEAR TO GOD STOP THIS SECOND OR I WILL SLAP YOUR  FA-MUZZLE SO HARD YOU WONT BE ABLE TO BREATH!" The dog jumped off Lily and bounded over to James, who was standing a few feet away. He sat down facing him and wagged his tail.

"Oh calm yourself Potter. This can't possibly be your dog, can it?" He looked at her like 'you really want to play this game?' She nodded her head in response.

"Padfoot! Sit!" The dog started walking around in a circle. "PADFOOT! Lay down!" The dog started running around the trunk of the tree with an amused look on his face. Lily rolled her eyes.

"Padfoot! C'mere boy!" The dog immediately pranced over to her. "Sit!" He sat down. James' mouth dropped open. "Lay down!" He did so. "Rollover!" He rolled all the way to James, threw him a surprisingly smug look, and rolled back. "Speak!"

"Hi! I'm padfoot!" The dog barked. Lily looked shocked for a second. "Very funny potter. Very funny. Padfoot, speak!" The dog barked obediently.

"Padfoot, come here you idiot." Said James, not amused and looking at the dog with a stern look on his face. The dog just sat there, staring blankly at the boy. "Ok, fine. Then I suppose I'll just leave you locked up tonight and you'll be of no help at all?" James asked questioningly, to Lily's surprise. Padfoot looked alarmed and ran over to James side and started to lick his feet.

"Padfoot, come visit me tomorrow, ok? Tomorrow 's a Saturday. You will visit, won't you pal?" She rubbed his ears. James rolled his eyes.

" He will, if he runs away from me again." Lily looked at him questioningly.

"Hey, where is Sirius? You're always hanging out together and I heard you calling him earlier. Where is he?" The dog and the boy both looked at each other in panic.

"Well, time to go, see ya round Red! BYE!" Yelled James.

"Bye?" She asked to herself. She rubbed her eyes for a second and the next, James was twisting the ear of his best pal Sirius. She couldn't make out what they were saying. She caught a particularly loud yell-

"IN BROAD DAYLIGHT?! AND HER OF ALL PEOPLE?" She grinned and continued packing. She was looking forward to seeing Padfoot  again.

How was it? Cute? I feel like this would've happened eventually.
