Sorry for the short chapter guys, thirteen will be longer!
Bella was fighting with another guy whom I didn't recognise. At first I thought he was a guest, but later I found out it was Ethan, her boyfriend.
I knew Bella would have repercussions. I was desperate to find where she was, and help her if I could, to try and save her from Jamey's consequences. But as I searched for something to tell where she was, I heard an announcement over the speakers.
It was a voice I'm pretty sure was Mason's, calling for several people to come to B403. I listened to the names as he rattled them off boredly. "Tyler Lawson, Savannah Fields, Elizabeth Gutierrez...." He said another ten or so names, and I started to ignore them when suddenly, I heard my name. "...and Alexis Hemmingsworth, to B403 ASAP."
Confused, I said goodbye and walked out into the hallway. Nobody from the observations room appeared to have had their names announced, as I was the only one from that room.
I wandered down the hallways. By now I thought I knew where B403 was, and it turned out I was right.
There were fifteen people, not including me, milling around the locked door. Soon after I walked up to join the crowd, Mason opened the door, letting everybody into the office. I'm not sure where Jamey was, but he wasn't here, which was a blessing.
Mason sat on the desk as the crowd parted to line the walls. "Good news for all of you," he began. As he talked, my eyes ran around the room. I recognised Natasha from ages ago, but everyone else I didn't know.
I wondered what the good news was. Or maybe he was being sarcastic... and we were in trouble?
"You guys have earned, either by one way or another, a mass promotion."
There was a collective cheer from the group. Mason waited patiently until everyone was quiet again. "Either you worked hard, have been here the longest, or 16 simply likes you better." I haven't worked particulary hard, nor have I been here long. The fact I was promoted simply for being Jamey's cousin made me feel guilty, like I had cheated. In a way I had. I had no right to rise above the others.
"Because of the resulting numbers, you will be split into two groups of eighteen people who will work either morning or night and have the other off. Understood?"
There was a chorus of "yes"'s and "yeah"'s and "yup"'s.
"There's a meeting for the managers at B119 tonight after dinner. Don't miss it."
I had a sick feeling that Bella wouldn't be turning up to that meeting.
