I was sitting in a tree now. The green canopy acting as coverage from prying eyes. I just wanted time by myself and this was the only solace I could get.Leaning back against the trunk, I began to close my eyes from the harsh sunlight and allow myself to think.
Before long though, my thoughts were suddenly broken by a hand reaching up and grabbing my ankle. "What the hell!"
Looking up at me with the crazy blonde hair was Steve, sheepishly trying to hold back his laughter. I feign looking angry and push him to the ground before joining in on the fun.
Hauling Steve up and off the ground he tells me to follow him. That something has come up that I need to know about.
Quickly he ushers me through the groups of malcontent soldiers and into the sergeant major's planning tent.
"What the fu-" my voice is cut in my throat by the sight of the sergeant standing directly in front me."Miss Frost, I'm pleased to inform you that you'll be joining the small unit heading out on their assignment today. Agent Carter, please fill her in."
I stood there shocked as he brushed past me out of the tent. When I finally allowed myself to look up at everyone around me I was happily shocked. Peggy, Steve, Bucky and the Howling Commandos were all lined up in front of me. The largest grins plastered on their faces as they greeted me with warmth and excitement.
"Wait. I'm so damn confused. What the hell is going on right now?"
"We will be going on an assignment leaving in 40 minutes to take down a Hydra facility," explains Peggy. "It's supposed to be a peaceful shut down, and we won't be engaging in fire."
Apparently I still looked a little confused because Bucky leaned over, "It's a nice way to get you out on the field for the first time without the fear of you getting shot." I stick my tongue out at him (so mature I know).
Throwing an arm around my shoulders, Bucky leads me to the center table to explain the assignment and what was about to go down. After I fully comrehended everything, they sent me off to grab my gear and get ready to head out.
Throwing on my clothes, I hurry to head to the Jeep, Steve passing off my bag to me as we jam ourselves into the back seat. With a jeep in front of us and a jeep behind, we speed through the narrow dirt roads to our mission.
With one of the Howling Commandos driving our convo, and Peggy riding shotgun, Steve, Bucky and I were tightly packed into the back seats. Though originally ment for two slim people, we somehow fit two very broad shouldered people into the back. And me as well I guess. I had been put into the middle seat because I was the smallest of all of us.
Though we were originally supposed to discuss how the mission was to go down, we couldn't stop joking around. And as much as Peggy tried to stop us, our laughter was ringing loud and clear.
About halfway through the ride though, our laughter died down and we fell into a somber mood. Steve was going over his maps and Bucky was staring hard at his compass. I had finally begun to feel content and with a deep sigh my head slowly settled down onto Buck's shoulder as I fell asleep.
It was a picturesque moment, just a handful of soldiers heading to war. One sound asleep and the others trying to ignore the growing anxiety as the battle drew closer.
