Chapter One
[Unedited.]
Mad house.
That was the first thing that had came to mind, well let me take that back. Mad house was the second thing that came to mind. First thought was color splash. Almost everyone was wearing black and white. Only a few people were wearing vibrant colors or any colors period, and I was one of the few.
"Excuse me!" I jumped slightly and looked behind me as a girl came riding in what looked like Security's mopeds? Soon enough, whistles and yelling was heard from down the huge, open hall which was clattered with squealing and talkative teenage girls. Turning my attention back to the happy, crazy girl, I watched as her hot pink hair flowed behind her, the wind whipping at her hair, giving it knotty-however beautiful-curls as she topped her outfit off in white skinny jeans, a double hole black belt, blue and white Flights, and a blue poco dot blouse that bellowed against her upper body, flashing her belly piercing and her black sports bra. All I could do was stare at her, kind of eager to take a picture of her as Security jumped into view. I have to say, I pictured the guards here to be old and chubby.
Boy was I wrong.
They were pretty fit, hardly had hair, and looked like a lot of the male teachers i've seen so far.
"Crazy right?"
Startled, I turned to my left, my hair caught in the corners of my mouth as a girl with black hair, dressed in a red poco dot dress and white flats, stood beside me. Black glasses resting on the bridge of her petite nose as the frames were round instead of angular. The first thing that came to mind was, this girl has my glasses; mine are fake. The second thing that came to mind, I love her fashion sense. But, before I could open my mouth she glanced at me and her hazel eyes sparkled in delight as I realized she was grinning at me. "Hi, i'm Susan Pike, that girl over there? That's my best-friend slash stepsister, Hannah Pike," she giggled and nodded in pride whilst pointing at her. I gave her a friendly smile, merely in admiration. Stuffing my phone in my sweater pockets, I glanced down to see her recording Hannah on her iPhone 4S. Which, by the way, hid perfectly behind her white kashmir sweater which rested on her arm. "What's your name?" It took me a while to realize she'd just asked me what my name was as I replied with, "Esmee Lee Marise."
"Well Esmee, welcome to Phoenix High, I guess."

"Alright, well bye Sheldon! See ya later!" It took a while before she noticed Susan standing at the office doors, arms crossed as she glared at her. "Oh shit, why aren't you at first period, Susan, you're going to be late!"
"Hannah! You should know better, you were sent straight to the office on your first day!" Susan's arms unfolded as she stomped her heel, her fists balled up as she stared Hannah down through her lenses. With a sigh, Hannah ran her hand through her brightly colored hair, a small smile on her lips. When she glanced towards my direction, she grinned and jumped at me. Her arms immediately coiling themselves around me as she swayed in a small circle.
"You definitely look like a photographer," she breathed.
Once. Twice. I blinked at Hannah and cocked my head with a nervous laugh escaping my lips. My hands acted on their own as I rubbed the back of my head. "Come again?"
"I'm Hannah, I like to live. Sometimes model and," she let me go, jerking her thumb towards Sarah as Sarah's finger's tapped away on her iPhone. "Sarah loves to record videos. Honestly, I don't even know why she was so mad since she was the one that dared me."
Quickly, as if she heard what she had said; most likely, Sarah looked up. Blushing and looking around the semi-quiet office before shooting daggers our way. Hannah giggled as I smiled, picking up our bags before heading out the office, the morning bell chiming as it classified Breakfast was over.
I'm. So. Hungry.
I slid my white-netted beanie off just to run a hand through my hair before sliding it back on. "Well, I guess this is where we depart. It was nice meeting you, uh.. Name?"
It took me awhile (again) to realize she was talking to me as I had so much on my mind; the bell schedule. I mean, gosh i'm starving and I just missed Breakfast. "I'm Esmee," I gave her a friendly smile in which she had returned as we strode down the hallway in comfortable silence, which didn't last as long.
"Can we see your schedule? Hannah and I do this every year," Sarah peered over Hannah and I's shoulder, a kind smile plastered on her face as she twitched. All I could do was stare at her, wondering what was wrong with her as I noticed her twitch. Staring at me expectantly.
"Um, sure, but are you okay?"
But, before I could even finish my question, Hannah was already taking my bag off of my back, dragging me to a nearby window with Susan trailing behind. They actually looked pretty serious. If this is how they spend their time.. I won't judge.
I chose not to do anything whilst watching my backpack get raped. Along with my teal prong folder and neon green one inch binder. I inwardly apologized as I watched them take my schedule out of the binder, scanning it with hard to read expressions. Glancing up at me every so often before glancing at each other. With an arched eyebrow, I stared at them in confusion. Taking in my surroundings as a few people said 'Hey' to me every so often. Some even snickering or rolling their eyes at me as I pondered,
What was wrong with my outfit?
I mean, all it consisted of was worn out pale blue skinny jeans; I refuse to wear my new jeans this week, my freshly washed white belly tank-top, pale yellow suspenders along with my favorite maroon colored vans. A loose maroon button up sweater that had vertical, skinny, pale yellow and pale green stripes and black buttons. My white netted beanie clinging to my black curly, shoulder length hair, dark brown highlights evident as the hallway lighting made its color stand out. My hair cut into a slant as the longer pieces of my hair rested on my right shoulder. My black circular glasses resting on the bridge of my nose, 14k birthstone earrings pierced into my earlobes; first day of school gift from my brother, and a dove necklace that had tiny diamonds scattered across it's freshly; golden, painted body resting upon my neck.
"Esme Leanne Marise, you are in luck my dear. For you are in classes with the both of us!" Hannah sounded like a talk show host as Susan happily put my belongings away. "Except for 4th and 5th period. You're only in class with me but we still have lunch together." A smile crept unto my lips. I was genuinely happy to be frank, I don't like being in a classroom with a bunch of strangers that stare at you like you're crazy.
"Cool, also, can you just say 'Lee' instead of 'Leanne'? Lee is better in my opinion." With a shrug in response Susan linked her arms with Hannah and I, right after she finished putting my stuff away and gave my backpack back to me. "Lets go to the Library you guys!" she said with a cheerful tone. I glanced at her and grinned. I could not wait to see the place, that I love to call, my safe haven.
Most of the time the library is where one can drown away into stories that they had wished was their own.. Fantasy.
