Chapter 4 - Security Guard
I was panting.
Whatever you call that thing that's chasing me, it was didn't take advantage of the opportunities to strike. It was like the predator was playing with its prey.
It was pretty fast. Like Formula 1 racing fast. It could've killed me a long while ago, by simply swiping its paws at me. But it was still jumping around. I was starting to think it was harmless because it just kept running around me, as if we're trying to run a race. I don't want to figure out if it was really harmless tho. I wasn't hurt anywhere yet. But I was tired like crazy.
I sincerely promise to work out at my apartment if I survive this. I need to seriously work out. I forgot that having stamina could actually save your life. I'm so gonna ace PE classes this time, if I live.
I frantically scan my surroundings to find a place to run to. My plan was to start running from the clearing that I said earlier, which was more like a park because of all the greenery, and into the main building, cause I figured it won't fit inside. Then I find a security guard walking alone with his cellphone, I assume, in hand.
I immediately knew what to do.
I dashed towards him.
We both were at a square where most of the school events take place. It was as large as two basketball courts put together side by side. There is even a national flag with a small but well-tended garden around the pole. But I can't appreciate it right now because its dark and I'm about to get ripped apart by a creature that came out of hell.
The main building oversees us. It seems really ominous now that the lights are all off. If you stare at it long enough, you’d feel that something will suddenly pop out of one of the ledges. Like a girl with her hair all over her face taking a peek at you. But enough of these thoughts. Like I said, I’m about to get killed.
I started to scream for help.
The security guard looked at me. I know this guard for quite a while now. But I figured that he doesn’t know me. He’s always at the gate, checking bags and identifying people through the IDs that they have to carry around. I don't think you'd be able to memorize that amount of people when the pool of faces change every year.
And I was kind of relieved until he drew out his M9 and pointed it at me.
"No! nononononononono!! I need help! I won't fucking try to attack you."
I kind of panicked. I can’t stop running. If I do, the creature behind me will mostly likely tear my head off. I have no idea why it still hasn’t done so because I already said, this thing is way faster than me in running. Somehow, it defied physics. I don’t know how something that large is able to run as quick and as light as that. Well, fuck physics, the fact that it looks like it came from hell and it is chasing me is enough to prove that it doesn’t need something like physics or maybe logic.
As I got closer to him, his gaze wandered somewhere else. Somewhere above me. His line of fire started to deviate from me, and pointed above me.
That's when I realized that his shocked face wasn't because of me; it was because of the thing that's chasing me. That confirmed that I wasn’t the only crazy guy in this place. And that other people can see this thing too. So much for relief. I thought I lost my sanity long ago.
Then, bam!
Gunfire.
He shot the creature a few times. I was still running, but I knew he was on my side. Or at least, I'm not his target. His aim wasn't bad, because considering how far I am, there's an off chance that he might hit me if his aim wasn't good. But I’m still clean. There wasn’t any sort of punching feeling anywhere in my body, except for my legs and thighs, they hurt like hell because of all the running.
Then he started to look confused. I was still running towards him, but he started to look around. I was curious as to why, and then I had a feeling that whatever was chasing me, might have disappeared. I gradually slowed down to a jog and then stopped altogether to catch my breath. I was breathing in and out at a very fast rate. But not fast enough that I might make myself hyperventilate.
He stopped looking around. Apparently, he thought he'd know more about whatever the creature was by asking me.
"Hey! Are you okay?" he asked me, he jogged towards me, with his keys making that christmas sound as he went up and down.
"I'm okay."
"What the fu-"
He was cut off.
He never finished his sentence.
He couldn't.
Why?
Because that was his last.
How did it become his last, you ask?
Because he was lying a few feet away from me.
Or rather, the lower half of his body.
