Loneliness has ended my life
And left nothing but an empty
Cacoon of pain
The darkness followed close behind
And took all the light
I was drowning in my own regret
My own misery
And I could never catch my breath
I'm dying
Slowly
And at my own hand
No one will miss me
When death takes me
And the pain will fly away

A flutter of wings carried the insect to the windowsill, colours standing out
against the dull morning outside

Inside was a girl, laying on top of her messy sheets.
Tears stains still wet on her pillow.
Her alarm went off for the third time
A muffled yell traveled through the house,
Calling her from her restless sleep
As she rose slowly from the bed, the butterfly caught sight of a crude drawing in her skin
It fell in love with the butterfly on her wrist

As she rushed to get ready for her day the butterfly flitted from the window onto her desk. As she turned one last time before leaving, she saw the butterfly standing sentinel next to her bed. One last call shook her from her stupor and she left through the door

The butterfly became her companion
For the remaining months of school
There for her in her darkest
And loneliest times.
Every time she felt her pains, she saw her friend and knew she wouldn't be alone
She started laughing as the butterfly's legs danced along her skin.
Day by day her smiles came more frequently and not just for her butterfly. The world could see her light again.
Meanwhile, the ink faded
The weight on her shoulders disappeared with the sharpie, leaving a pair of wings to grow.
