Chapter 1: Paul and I

I'm Jo. At least, iyan yung tawag nila sa akin. I'm openly gay and that's the best part of being me.

Medyo payat ako pero yung tama lang. Yung less than medium built pero hindi naman mukhang malnourished yung itsura. I have a wavy hair na laging naka-clean cut since I always want everything to be prim and proper. May pagka-obsessive compulsive kasi ako. Sa facial features naman, they said na I always wear a smiling face. Palagi naman akong masaya so kaya siguro nila nasabi iyon.

I am studying Mass Communications sa isang popular university dito sa Baguio. Ang dream ko: maging isa sa mga nirerespetong news anchor dito sa Pilipinas.

May pagka tibak kasi ako pagdating sa karapatan ng LGBTQ. Fighting for equality kumbaga. So far kasi, kung titignan mo ang mga news program sa TV, wala kang makikitang openly gay na nagbibigay sa mga mamamayan ng balita.

That is the dream: To have someone from LGBTQ to stand at the podium to deliver the news. To create change. Palitan ang stereotype na ang mga bakla ay para lang sa mga di seryosong bagay – yung mga bagay na tinatawanan.

So yun, I'm Jo and Paul is my best friend. We've been best friends since childhood. Paul resembles One Tree Hill's Michael Copon. Medyo dark yung skin color ... Yung tama lang. Kakalaro kasi ng outdoor sports. I am not the sporty-type person pero suportado ko naman siya sa kung anong peg ang gusto niya. Clean cut rin yung buhok nitong si Paul. Hindi kasi niya bagay yung ibang mga types ng haircuts. Since sporty type siya, well-built yung katawan niya. I can assure you that that's true.

Paul is studying Industrial Design at the same university. He is straight. Promise. Medyo rare yung situation namin. Pero everything sa relationship namin as mag-bestfriend were built from a very unforgettable series of pasts mula pa noong bata pa kami. Other than that, nag-ki-click talaga kami pagdating sa taste sa music, lifestyle, food, et cetera. All-in-all, a great foundation para umabot sa ganitong status ng friendship.

So that's Paul and I. But the reason why I'm writing the story wasn't casted yet.

I am your not so special gay guy. Paul is my gwapong housemate who is occupying the room next to mine. He is my bestfriend and I'm falling in love with him.
