Dates swirled around in my mind. Names, dates, pictures, graves... They all mashed together. 1776 versus 1976 had no dissimilarity in my mind. Family history sucked.

To top it all of, the computer mouse I bought for two bucks at Goodwill now it wasn't working. It would flicker on and off, making me more irritated in the first place.

I blamed it on Mrs. Ringo, she was the one that assigned family history in the first place.

It's good to learn about your past; is what she said. Many of us don't know where we come from

Yeah, Family Trees were fun in first grade. But as a sophomore in high school, I would rather be doing something more productive.

Oh sue me for wanting to skip the family history section

But as it turns out, The Kyle family tree is confusing. There's orphans, jail birds, Freemasons and military hometown heroes. But sometimes, dates and faces don't even match.

My family tree drives me crazy.

That's when the weird stuff started happening. I was almost up to my fifth great grandparents(Henrietta and Aaron Kyle) when the computer glitched out and my tree disappeared; only Brooke Kyle (2001-) was left.

All my hard work was gone. My tree wouldn't come back no matter how many times I refreshed my browser. I cursed, screamed and threw a fit. Good thing I was home alone or I would of had my mouth washed out with soap.

So I gave up entirely on doing my family tree on the internet. So I opened the family book.

The family book was called The Kyle Family History(creative right), it dated back into the fifteenth century when Richard Kyle came over into Maryland when it was still a colony controlled by The British. It had every Kyle ancestor of mine up until my dad. It was published when my dad was my age, written by his great grandfather or something like that.

I knew exactly what page Henrietta and Aaron were on, but as I flipped to the page; I found it blank. No words, no pictures, no dates... Nothing.

As I flipped through it, I found more and more blank pages. One whole page had gone blank, right where my paternal grandparents had been.

Panicking, I picked up my cellphone and called Grandma Mattie's cellphone. But a strange voice picked up.

"Hello?" His voice was deep and unfamiliar.

"Hey, is Mattie Kyle there?" I asked and scratched the back of my neck. Maybe I had dialed the wrong number, hopefully. I was really hoping I accidentally pushed a seven instead of a nine.

"Never heard of her."

"This is the number-" I recited her number back to the strange man. "-isn't it?"

"Yes, never heard of a Mattie Kyle. Sorry," then he hung up.

I pulled the phone away from my ear panicking, Mom and Dad were supposed to be home three hours ago.

So I called their businesses, the secretaries said they had never heard of a Alice or a Brian Kyle.

Strange people picked up their cellphones, just as Grandma Mattie's had. It was getting weird and scary.

In desperation, I went to bed. Maybe it was all just a bad dream. Mom and Dad would be home in the morning.

* * * *

The next morning, the house was cold and empty. Mom and Dad weren't home. They didn't come home from work. My family tree was still missing and the book was still blank.

I was so scared, I even called the police. But the police hadn't heard of my parents- or even me for that matter. Even though they had been working there since before I was born.

It was like my parents dropped off the face of the earth. Brooke, Brain and Alice Kyle were non existent. But the problem was, I was still here. Why hadn't I gone with my family? I would rather be with them.

So I didn't even bother going to school, if nobody remembered me now; why would they remember me at school?

I ditched the school project and spent the rest of the day crying my eyes out.

In the heat of the moment,I picked up the cheap computer and threw it mouse across the room; it hit the wall and bounced off.

I turned away and bit my lip, that's when he came to me.

"Well you don't have to be over dramatic," a male voice said.

I spun around; the first thing I noticed was his unnatural green eyes. They were almost the color of a ripe lime, beautiful and they looked natural. But they couldn't be. Nobody- no human for that matter had eyes like that.

He wore a grey beanie, the color of the mouse I bought. Dark black hair was tucked underneath. His jawline was strong and he had me by a couple of inches.

"Who the hell are you?!" I screamed and grabbed the first thing I saw, the Kyle Family History book.

I must of looked pretty imitating because his eyes widened. "I'm Mathias, calm down," he held his hand out. "Just listen for a sec."

"Where the hell are my parents," I asked Mathias. "Did you take them. And why the hell were you in my computer mouse?"

"Just listen. You're family tree faded, you're the only one left."
