Chapter Three
After I completely understand that I am really going into the past, Mathias takes me to get dressed.
There is a group of hairstylists from the 1960's who Mathias introduced me too. My hairstylist was named Harper, she was very bubbly and talked like those old TV shows my Grandma liked to watch.
I picked out a hairstyle for her to do while Mathias sat across from me.
"So, I need to teach you the rules," Mathias said and crossed his arms.
"The rules?" I winced as Harper shoved a bobby pin against my scalp. "What rules?"
"The rules of time traveling," Mathias said simply. "So you don't screw up history."
"Okay, what are they?"
"One, changing small things in history are okay. As long as it doesn't affect our country now," Mathias said and nodded. "Like stopping a women from buying expired milk.
"Two, changing big things are not okay. For example, the death of a president, foreclosure, etc."
"So, you're telling me not to save Kennedy," I said and tried not to move my head as Harper pulled at my hair.
"Yes basically," Mathias shrugged. "Rule three, don't bring people to your future that are from the past. Like if you meet this person that is your best friend- don't bring them to the future."
I rolled my eyes, "like I would do that."
"Four, don't save people that are about to die," Mathias said. "It could really affect our future badly. Unless it's your case, you just have to save your grandpa."
"Done," Harper said and spun me around so I could see the mirror.
My hair was in Victory Curls, my brown hair had never looked so soft. I didn't even remember her curling my hair but it looked nice.
"It makes you look older," Harper said and adjusted a hair pin.
I turned to Mathias, who gave me a thumbs up. I jumped out of the chair and Mathias led me to the clothing department.
"This is Winter," Mathias introduced me to a young girl with red hair. "She's the best in the 60's clothing department. She will be setting you up for the couple of months."
Winter smiled and led me over to a large closet, it was a collection of new clothes. She asked for my sizes and then disappeared.
She came back with a grey plaid knee length skirt, a teal blue button up shirt, a cardigan a darker shade of blue, knee high blue cotton socks and saddle shoes.
"It's perfect, I wore this exact same style," she said and held it up. "It'll look perfect on you."
I went behind a screen to change. I had only worn knee high socks once before so I felt silly tugging them on.
As I stepped out from behind the screen, Winter smiled and turned away from Mathias.
"You look just like the 60's," Winter said as she fixed my small collar. "You'll fit in just fine."
I looked at Mathias, he nodded and motioned for me to follow him. I followed him into another room where Xandra was getting her hair styled.
Her hair was pulled into a braided bun, I couldn't definitely see how she was a Romanov. Her hair was almost the same color as Alexandra Feodorovna once had, red-gold almost. She had Nicholas' nose and Alexandra's eyes.
She turned around to glare at me, "you look like the 1960's just spit up on you."
I bit back another response but decided to roll my eyes. "Are you almost ready?"
