Obama's U.N. speech had big holes

When the President of the United States takes the podium at the U.N. to deliver a speech to the World, he would better make sure that he does not engage in propaganda. In his speech today, the President tried to present a fair and balanced account of the reasons for the lack of trust which exists between Iran and the U.S. He mentioned  the U.S. interference in the internal affairs of Iran, during the Cold War, which resulted in toppling of a democratic government in favor of a dictator as one of the reasons. And then added that the U.S. can not trust the Islamic Republic because they have designated the U.S. as an enemy and that they have threatened to destroy Israel. Now, I don't know what President Obama was thinking but I am sure if China covertly toppled the Jeffersonian Democracy and replaced it with a Communist dictatorship, the Americans would not consider the Chinese as their friends, would they now? As for destroying Israel, for a moment I thought that Sara Palin was talking. While such a claim makes a good solid talking point at Fox News, and makes the pundits and anchors salivate, it is way too silly for the President to repeat. Any person with minimal knowledge about Iran and Israel knows that Iran does not have the military capability to launch an attack on Israel that could amount to any major destruction. The Iranian Air Force is no match for the highly modern and state-of-the-art Israeli Air Force. Iran's Army has no way of invading Israel, and even if it did, the Israeli Army is by far better equipped and trained than the Iranian Army. Similarly, the Iranian Navy has no role to play in such a war. So, the only option to attack Israel is lobbing missiles over Israel. How many missiles reach Israel and how many can penetrate the Israeli anti-missile defenses and how many missile can actually hit their targets is anybody's guess but by all calculations and estimates it is not going to be too many. So, in order to buy into the narrative that Iran is going to destroy Israel, one must assume that there are a bunch crazy Mullahs in Iran that wake up one morning and decide to commit suicide by lobbing missiles over Israel knowing full well that the full force of the Israeli and American arsenal will be unleashed upon them. If that is your supposition, then you don't know the first thing about the Mullahs.

Does Israel have the capability to destroy Iran? Absolutely! Israel's undeclared nuclear arsenal can be launched from a variety of platforms including submarines. With an estimated two hundred weapons, Israel can easily destroy all major Iranian cities.

To say that Iran is going to destroy Israel is as stupid as saying Cuba is going to destroy the U.S. And hence, when the President of the United States makes that statement, people who know better will simply laugh because they know that he knows better. They laugh because they see how the most powerful commander-in-chief in the World is forced to hold the propaganda line that has been dictated by Israel.
