We last left our heros with a possibility of return to the future. (To the best of my knowledge)

"Laila?" Paul pushed open the swinging brown doors that separated the living room from the kitchen. They swung out, revealing an empty yellow kitchen. The doors moved back, knocking Paul in the nose.

"Son of a!" He jumped back, holding his nose. He slammed the doors with his open palm and went into the porcelain sink. Paul cleaned the blood that streamed down to his mouth; he could taste it. 'This is something Laila would have done' he thought all the while. All the blood was washed away in a spin of water and red. It's quite beautiful as it fades into the dark of the drain. Paul sat up on the counter then and sighed. A thought occurred to him, something he didn't dare to think before.

"Maybe she is gone. Maybe she went back to her own time." And it seemed logical. Her things were there; untouched from the night before. the only thing that was missing was her and her silk night dress...that she wore last night. And that was it for him.

She was gone.
