The pain in my sholder was gone.
I wished I had time to test the limits of this body before making a suicide charge. Too late.
She bounded forward like a well oiled machine. Over the back of one and ripping my fangs through another's shoulder.
For a moment they didn't move, stunned.
Lashing with my teeth and body slamming another, I thought I might have a chance. A wolf voice howled in my head, mad with battle rage. For some reason it didn't startle me. It seemed right that she be there in my head.
Voices assaulted me.
"Idiot! Stupid idiot! You should have finished it!"
"I'm sorry! We all thought she was a stupid-"
"Reilly, Tom, stop starring like sheep and help Isic!"
The wolf I was attacking jumped back. Fangs sliced into my back. I sprang around and felt the same fangs rip down my nose. Whimpers came unbidden.
The wolf dodged my return swipe and cocked his head at me.
"I bit her. Shouldn't something happen?" The voice in my head seemed to be coming from him.
"She is already a wolf!" This voice came from behind me.
I spun, dancing to the side, as a wolf lunged at me from behind.
"Why don't you force her to be still, Alpha?" This voice came from the same wolf who had cocked his head.
"I've been trying." A voice growled. This one came from behind the bulk of the group. He hadn't attacked.
"Move."The group parted like water and the attacks stoped.
A ordinary wolf stepped forward, head high. His coat was brown and patchy but he was by far the largest of the group. His average apperence was countered by the commanding presents I felt at the back of my mind. Consistent buzzing had been pressing on me. However, it was not strong or compelling. Where my werewolf spoke, he did.
"Submit!"
I cocked my head at him.
"Are you sure she can hear you?" Said the same wolf.
"She Changed into a werewolf. That comes with a telepathic link with her kind. I know she can hear me."
He turned his hard eyes on me. "Submit! Be still!"
The buzzing became stronger but was nothing more than a slight annoyance.
Without thinking, my wolf said cheekily, "Or what?"Gasps sounded from all around me.
The Alpha looked offended.
With an angry glint in his eyes, he snapped his teeth and stepped back. The wolves all around me growled.
Over our link, I felt menacing hate.
My hackles rose and I growled.
My wolf howled, "Bring it on, chickens!"
I could tell they were serious now. No more laughing.
They were in for the kill.I sealed myself to fight and to die.
One lunged from the side. I tackled it and bit hard. It threw me off. And backed away. The wolves growled.
"Your dead. Little dragon."
Yelps erupted from behind me. I sprang to the side.
"Their here!"
"What?! How did they get so close without warning!?"
This voice came from the alpha."We have to leave there are too many!"
"From the south!"
Other wolves ran from the forest. Jumping into the mix howling with blood lust. They fought and bit and scratched.
I jumped into the fray. One by one the werewolves fled.
"They didn't put up much of a fight." Said my werwolf.
"They just couldn't handle this awesomeness." I replied. Then I saw him. A dark grey wolf stepped into my view.
He was different than the fleeing wolves. He was smaller and more graceful. His coat was smooth and silky.
I felt no link with him but I could still feel the wolves running in the distance.
He looked me over.
"He's pretty." My wolf said.
"Hush."
He motioned with his head and turned. At least ten other small, graceful wolves bounded after him.
I followed as I knew I was expected to.
Cocking my ear back, I could hear four or five wolves following me.
I followed for what felt like forever when we came to a waterfall. The trees didn't go all the way to the water, creating a clearing.
The grey wolf was standing erect, facing an equally sized brown wolf.
They nodded to each other and parted. The brown alpha led another twenty wolves in a different direction as we ran to the east.
"No wonder the werewolves ran. They were greatly outnumbered."
We ran for a half an hour before the trees parted to reveal a flower filled meadow.
I stoped as the wolves before me turned to look at me. The ones around and behind me stopped moving and stood in a rough circle with me in the middle.
"This can't be good."
I swiveled around matching very wolf's gaze.
My hunches rose and I showed my teeth.
The grey leader troded up to me. He Changed.
I snapped my eyes shut. I did NOT want to see a naked guy.
Not being able to see made me itchy but I could hear just fine. His breath became human.
He laughed under his breath. "Change back to a human if you can, shewolf."
His tone was light and he sounded young.I Changed back, slapping my left hand over my eyes and keeping them screwed shut.
"You can open your eyes." He said. He was close. Merely a couple steps away.
I shook my head. "I'm afraid I don't want to see you without your clothes."
He chucked again. "A pity. But I am, in fact, clothed."
I peeked through my fingers. My shoulders relaxed. He wasn't naked.
He had dark red hair. Tall and skinny but with a nice array of muscles of that I could see. His was wearing a cut off t-shirt and shorts. He was very young. He couldn't be more than a few years older than me, with a good looking face and a nice tan.
"And his human form doesn't disappoint." Werwolf murmured.
This was crazy. What on earth was in my head. I wasn't sure I liked it.
"Shut up." I murmured back.
"What?" Said the good looking leader, who still looked amused.
"Nothing...Why do you have clothes on? Werewolves can't change with objects."
For the first time he looked offended. "We are not werewolves. Which is why we saved your skin." Shrugging he continued.
Any enemy of my enemy is my friend." He smiled.
Then shook his head."They almost had you. Anyway I'm Alecc of the SilverFire pack."
